If we want VJing to take off we as a community have to take the initiative to make it accessible to "the people".
House music came into being because a few stubborn DJs.... well basically because DJs took the stage. And each new style in dance music in general came into being because a core group decided to organise events with a recognisable "face".

Zap25 hit the nail on the head regarding VJ exposure. If we want to raise VJ visability, we have to make it happen.

One way, like Zap suggested, would be to organise our own events and thus have the power to create our own image. Props to pixy, NE1, Holly and others for throwing parties. Keep it up!

The other way to gain exposure is to get hired and mix it up at events. I do believe that we can and will gain recognition going this route. Although we do not have as much control we can make demands. Our first and formost being flyer recognition. I have gone to countless paries and clubs, seen VJ's mix and not know who they were because their names were not on the flyer. So please, make sure the promoters gives you credit.

In addition, we need to shmooz/network and why not look to our DJ sistas and brothas...........they have come a long way. How do they promot and market themselves? Could the same techniques work for us?

Any other suggestion on VJ exposure and gaining recognition?

Promo's are a good way to get exposure. Make a five to ten minute mix. Throw it on a DVD. Make some copies. Get on stage at the next event and throw them out to the crowd. Or stand next to backstage and hand them to DJ's and Promoters.

I had this discussion awhile back on a VJ Panel. I was going to release hour long DVD's but was advised otherwise. Make it short and to the point. Maybe some tech interview stuff will help raise consciousness.

I've actually found 1 song from each style of music you prefer (or can/will) VJ with is best... with big fat fades to your Logo or booking/contact info between them. but I'm sure there are as many VJ styles as there are VJs and as probably more demo styles than all of us.
