Is there a forum where people can preview / buy / sell loops? I create original 2d/3d psychadelic loops I guess you would call them.. here's an example:

http://www.treyharrison.com/capture.avi

any advice? anyone want to buy that one from me? :P
Its obviously a low quality divx but I can encode NTSC or PAL, on cd, DVD, minidv or whatever you like =)

if you're not down w/the .avi, check the attached screenshot.

Electronica-Optica hosts a way to sell loops:
http://www.electronica-optica.com/vjloops/

Did you want to attach a price to it or just field offers as they come? Maybe start bidding, like on eBay?

Pretty work based on the still! (Machead, can't view AVI).

Thanx Holly,

We've got a pretty good system worked out with Vtechmedia.com

You can post any size or quality you want.

It's also a good idea to offer versions of the same file (avi, qt, divx). This range of choices opens your work to more artists, and it's better for the original artist to render out the different compressions - between-compression conversion starts to look really bad. It's also a matter of good service.

Loops under a minute are sold for $1 for half-screen (320x240), $2 for full-screen (640x480). Longer clips are more.

Right now we have about a dozen artist on board. We may have more when I have some time (after the new vjtv.net launch...)

Drop me a line if you want to know more.

Thanks holly,

you *can* view it, silly mac head. but first you need to download the DivX 5 codec. You can download directly from one of my pages:

http://www.zygotia.com/DivX5.0.5Installer.sit

or from the DivX people themselves here

http://www.divx.com

If thats too much work, sit tight and I'll post a quicktime version later today.

Also i looked at your site and thought "wow, this is very cool". Maybe you don't need any more encouragement at this point but regardless - Keep it up :)

Thanks!

I think we all need encouragement! Let me know if you do a QT version. Love to see more!

Nice clip. On your website, you mention some custom software called "Salvation". Is this what you use to create you clips. or just to mix them together?

You pretty much got it right.. "Salvation" is the name of the platform/work environment in which I create the animations. The animations are created by combining 2d or 3d objects, textures, filters, transformations, etc, in a modular fashion (isn't "modular" the new software buzzword?). Its based on OpenGL so everything you do gets a real-time response - at least, in most cases. Because of the modularity it is easy to create designs that don't run very well in realtime. In those cases you can just render to a .avi and watch it that way =)

if you're hooked, you can see some more videos @ http://www.zygotia.com/videos.html

but those are rapidly collecting dust as I create new and better stuff :P

Ok I was having some trouble w/the quicktime files being too damn big. I figured out how to cut the bitrate down, but of course now the video (which is 720x480) looks really pixelated. It looks nicer if you shrink the window you're watching it in :)

Lemme know if you'd like me to post a larger more detailed version or smaller lower res, whatever =)

Any plans for a public demo of Salvation?

yeah.. shoot - i wrote a response to this then lost it somehow. The first "public" release will be of a viewer / screensaver which is capable of (duh) viewing (or using as a screensaver) the content created with the full editor.

That should be in a few weeks, if all goes well. Releasing the editor may or may not happen, it depends on how successful I am selling loops :P

Yeah, I really like your loop demos. I think it should be a good start for anyone looking to start a collection

I like creating my own loops so i would be even more interested in the software that you used to create them. Salvation seems like an interesting piece of software. I like an easy to use interface and stability (but of course who doesnt.) So if Salvation can simplify this process of combining 2d and 3d images than im all for it.

Keep us updated to any developments you have. Best of luck.

Well, here is a picture of the software for the Nord Modular synthesizer, which works pretty much the same way the software for Salvation does (instead of audio, you work with graphics)

http://www.nordmodular.com/pictures/nordmodular/patchwindowlarge.jpg

You can decide if it looks "easy to use" or not =)

Yep, I defiantely love the interface. Very free range when it comes to creating visuals. Looks like there could be a lot of user options at your disposel.

Depending on how far the user wants to dive into the nuts and bolts of the architecture, there is a (seemingly) unlimited range of techniques and algorithms, etc, that can be incorporated effectively into a design. My software doesnt look as pretty as the Nord Modular stuff, but it functions well. Speaking of looks... if anyone with UI skinning/design talent wants to create the default skin, that'd be sweet :)
