Anyone know where I can find some decent footage taken from a rollercoaster? I did a search through altavista and only found some stuff on www.discovery.com but the quality is pretty bad. Anyway, if you know where to get some (even from a movie) that would be great.

cheers.

would you settle for a 3D animated loop?

if so, you should be able to find one in my uploads on the audiovisualizers hotline server. if you cant find it, let me know and i will point you in the right direction.

otherwise, most of the video footage i have found, does not match up well in a loop.

depending on your personal style, you could take your shitty footage you downloaded already and run it though some goodies in aftereffects to make it unique...

good luck!

A quick search in Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=roll) came up with...

Here Comes a Rollercoaster and Other Fun-Filled Rides (http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=85365113039)
America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Ultimate Scream Machines (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004STHK/104-6565598-7574340)

plus a pile of titles at www.ultimaterollercoaster.com (http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/souvenirs/videos_idx.html)
and
www.screamscape.com (http://www.screamscape.com/html/videos___music.html)

(Gotta love Google!) :)

I think I found some footage over at:
http://roller-coaster.searsfamily.com/files.html

not sure if there's any shots from the rollercoasters themselves (you know, like first person perspectives etc) but what the hell, they're pretty good quality :D

Anyway, just thought I'd share the love ;)

I am going to go to an amusement park at least once during the summer, DV camera in hand (as well as a slew of extra batteries).

> I want rollercoaster footage...shots from the rollercoasters >themselves (POV)

I have all of the tapes listed above in my collection, but I'm not into copying them for others. However, my 1991 video: "PsyberFlight" is 20 minutes long, and is based around first person POV (originally shot for 3D head mounted display) footage I shot from the front of half a dozen rollercoasters at Canada's Wonderland (one of Canada's biggest ride parks). You can download it from my hotline server in both 300 & 500 meg versions (both 320x240, slightly different compression on the diff files). And you're welcome to use it or parts of it for whatever suits your needs.

there's also a coney island video available on archive.org wich is full of old rollercoasters (at least 20 loops to sample !)

And of course the Roller Coaster scene from "Vacation" when they finally get to ride the coaster.

Note: They often won't let you take things like your DV camera on a coaster, so you'll have to sneak it on there. They don't want it flying out of you hand and smashing on the pavement any more than you do.

I brought my cam onto Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain in Disney.

Space Mountain was just a load of lights spining round

Thunder Mountain was really hard to hold the camera straight in relation to the carraige. I think you really need to clamp it to something.

Cool crazy riggings.

Try taking a belt pack or something of the like and sewing it onto there.

on one of my 40+ unspotted/ungrabbed tapes there are some bits from a (discovery?) documentary about rollercoasters. It will probably have dutch subtitles and I probably won't find time soon to find and grab it but I'll look for it and let you know when I find it.

These clips really rock! They are taken with a cam that is directly mounted to the rollercoaster.
Nearly no shacking, cool :jump:

This is the sickest roller coaster out there. Its in Sandusky OH, the second tallest in the world (second to its sister coaster in Japan which is 5 feet taller) the first drop is something like 83 degrees. 7 less than straight down. at 90+ mph. NUTS! go to cedar point in OH and ride this if you can. You won't regret it.

-> go to http://www.eon.de
-> stay or go to the german (deutsch) page
-> click "e.on gewinnspiel" (upper right)
-> wait for the stupid flash game/site to load
-> click on TV-Spots (the first one "achterbahn" is a rollercoaster-clip)
the rollercoaster-clip and all the rest of the clips there are pretty nice 3d-animated tv-commercials - if you dont wanna use them because of what they are, i think you perhaps can get a bit of inspiration ...
