im curious to know whether there are any VJs out there specialising in visuals for non-electronic music.

well...are there?

i was just pondering doing a set to some classical music - there is so much room for expression and emotion.

yeah i'm mixing twice a week on an experimental / psychedeledic rock band :) it's really interesting and i sure hope to mix on other music genres, because i like all kind of music.

i wanted to ask this on a new thread but i might as well do it here: do you think that in a few years the VJ scene (the word VJ being used loosely here, "viewsician" might fit better) will be split in different genres like it is right now for the music?

yeah, thats a good point...

personally, right off the bat (without giving it more than a second of stoned thought) i would say that it will all be dictated by the music.

seeings as we need music to perform to, (well, it helps) i think "viewsician" classification will be set around music classification.

i will probably add more later, but i will stop now before i start rambling.

in some way it already happens if you look at the diferant styles of imagery that v.j.s put out it seems to be similer to how a d.j. plays his/her style but again this is very conected to the 4/4 beat scean.
but if we look at what hapend at the vj.net gig there does seem to be the space, both from the creator and the audiance, to experiment with diferant musical types.
now wether we as vj's per say will ever dictate the music it's self is anouther thing alltogether.

I'm approaching a 70's rock tribute band at the moment to run back projections/movies as well as the usual freaky blob stuff , should be good fun if it gets off the ground.

Hmmm yeah I have done video b4 for rock bands but I don't think of this as the deliniation for the viewsician tag (created by a friend of mine here in syd BTW). Personally I see the VJ tage be more appropriate personally to more mix based video artist that concetrate on the live mix and composition, where as I see the viewsician tag as being more content and production orientated.
