My photos from the weekend at AVIT in Chicago are now online. There are intermixed pictures of my homies in Chicago with who I was staying. Enjoy. :) http://www.slackworks.com/~monkey/photos/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=chicago_avit - AVIT/Chicago pictures 6/6/03-6/8/03.

VJ TranceKoder's coffin/rig.... by far the slickest setup I've seen.

Consisting of:

MIDI controller (the sliders)
Edirol v4 (you're right the strobe is awesome, I like black tho)
TIpowerbook
Gsomething tower (underneather)
Amiga <gasp> (that thing still works?)
4 monitors (v4 preview, amiga preview, overall output & ???!)
bunch of other "stuff"

the coolest part about the coffin IMO was the slide on/off work surface, awesome idea.

yeah, i didn't get a chance to peak behind his rig at the conference, but dayum! that is a great idea. i might have to forego getting custom road cases made once i get my v4. :P

Dallas you have come a long way since Psychic Chakra... mad props up to ya .. I hope we can actually get a chance to mix head to head one of these times. It doesn't seem like we have had the best of luck - at chakra it rained just time for your set! At avit ... well that was just chaos ...

Best of luck to you and Fred :)

Worked very long and hard to get the dimensions right etc but it was worth it. I basically have my entire studio wrapped up in the package (less my OTHER Mac used for editing and whatnot). Let me tell you it is a bitch hauling this thing around, but if I NEED it, it's ready to go. I'm currently working on a smaller case (made by dc cases [www.dccase.com] whom I will or will not recommend in the future) that will house the screens, V4, two DVD players, and room for DVD discs. I plan on using this rig for most of my gigs now. After having the Colorado mountain experience I'll be the first to tell you that dragging out the kit pictured above is not ideal (and I don't mind dragging out lots of gear usually either!) for most settings. Truth of the matter is that I'll bring my big rig out for the "big" jobs (however you define that) and the smaller 2 DVD set-up for most all other gigs (especially out of state--for now--until I can actually afford a custom shock mount case). As far as portability, I would never want my rig (the BIG one) to be in the hands of some baggage handler or ANYONE for that matter (I'm sure you can all understand) since I sweated blood and tears over it, but the smaller rig, no problem---ship it!.

Also fellow vjs, keep in mind that your gear can't ALWAYS be in site unless it is in fact portable. I had to leave 1000s of dollars worth of equipment in the dark alleys of Chicago for some time, in various parking lots overnight (hotel/motel), and stranded in the middle of the Rockies. Let me tell you it can be a bit STRESSFULL which kind of takes all the fun out of vjing to begin with. So my advice finally is---keep it small and portable unless you MUST have all the interactivity you have at home in the studio, live. I want all the interactivity that everyone else wants, but that usually means more gear, more weight, more worries on the road. I want to have fun at these events not be constantly worrying about my gear. Maybe if someone wants to pay me good money I'll be willing to get the shock mount cases and ship my rig anywhere. That day has yet to come.

Think on it. and Give thanks (in general:nod: )

....and Nix, you're a queen. Thanks for the support and the chance to rock AVIT, even though not ALL things come out as we'd like them too. I know Danno did what he could and all things happen for a reason so let it be known we love and appreciate you for focalizing the energy that made the first AVIT NA a reality. As I told Pixy, I'm sure that we'll be mixing together soon. Lets just say it is part of the vision that has been so graciously passed on to me. Peace sister...
