Are you sure you really want on of those huge great hulking things when you just starting out, personally I would recommend an MX1, a modded MX10/12 or maybe on of the other little panasonics, or one of those wierd euro mixers..... really the 50 is overrated, expensive and not really necessary especially for a beginner

MX10 and 12 are, MX1 is videonics and it has a lag on the t-bar @ the begining and end of its run, but as I have said before if you quick cutting from the t-bar rather than software (or bus selectors) your living in the darkages (or gonna have a killer RSI wrist). The MX1 has an excellent range of FX and transitions, far more than the MX10 or 12, but the 12 has the fastest switching of ANY MIXER, off the bus selectors... all depends on what you after really..... which reminds me we really need to finish the panasonic mixer reviews for VJC...

You'll have to look on www.ebay.com for a videonics MX1, as they are no longer in production. BUT, there are always a ton of them for sale on Ebay.
I recommend the MX1, it small!, and has a great chroma key function. The lag on the T-bar is livable.

LOL merseyj0ker why are you using !'s instead of ?'s ??? :p

Check the VJCentral mixers reviews if you haven't yet, plenty of links are provided there.

My missus can carry my spare unit in from the truck. ( you an elf or somthing)?

Hahahaha hardly, but I'm used to nice little units like the MX1 (as I said I hardly mix off it anyway), I like small, light and neat.... its all personal pref in this case. Portable Assult VJ @ your service :)

BTW ***** you can add that luma key to the MX10 and 12 with a luma mod which i'n sure could prolly be adapted to the other panasonic mixers without it quiet easily

And as I said I'm only going of the prices here in aust, which seem to be a bit higher than everywhere else, thats why I say its abit overpriced for a beginner.

I saw one for sale on Tottenham Court Road in London for ?2400 inc VAT last week. I'm sure you could do a deal as well to get the price down a bit more.

Hahaha..... I wish it was that small :p

Currently I use and MX1, 2 laptops, a cam&tripod, VHS/VCD and my CVI. Which fits into a cam bag, backpack and a 6u roadcase. Although I am looking forward to the realease of some new hardware over the next 12 months which will remove the need for the roadcase ;)
