Flight404, probably my favourite real-time developer uses processing to create some absolutely stunning audio reactive apps.
Recently he noticed a famous clothing designer used his graphics on a T-Shirt and sells it for $235.

Most of us would probably start jumping up and down but to his credit - he bought the shirt and wears it proudly:
So what now? I have no idea. I am not angry. I am not feeling vindictive. I am flattered and amused. This isn’t like that Urban Outfitters/Johnny Cupcakes incident (http://consumerist.com/consumer/evil/urban-outfitters-rips-designers-cupcake-tshirt-149095.php). I don’t actually feel wronged. I do feel that some designer for the Paul Smith brand committed an embarrassing act of laziness. This should not be excused and I imagine they will be dealt with accordingly. I don’t get a ton of blog traffic but I would be surprised if this didn’t eventually get back to the Paul Smith organization. And Mr. Smith, if you are reading this, Lance and I have always wanted to spend a week in London. Oh, and I am a 42L.
Perhaps there is a lesson for us vj's in there somewhere.

Yup, I saw this too and thought it was a nice way of dealing with it.
Flight404's work inspired me to get into processing myself, amazing stuff from that guy!

cool .. i remember Flight404 from graphix school in 2000 ..
everyone was talking about the "stencil", "aeroplane plan" and "map" style
perhaps the fashion piece could be given a title:
The Stolen Shirt Design Generation by Paul Smith and Flight404

Its too bad this is not BankersForums.com or we'd be talking about trillions of dollars stolen from US taxpayers which are headed for European banking cartels ...
in either case it doesn't seem to phase the parties concerned...
go figure

yes true - my post seems to be presuming a higher moral ground, when in actual fact there is no moral high ground at all .. cheers. :)

the designer has done an amazing job taking some of the nicest audio-visual reactive gubbins around and turned it into - a slightly sub-standard t-shirt. reminds me of seeing the Sistine chapel on an ashtray. tacky.
but yeah, props to 404 for taking in his stride with a smile on his face. ;)
er...cue Rovastar foaming at the mouth?

*paul smith in ripping off other peoples ideas shocker*
nothing new really... he's been doing it for years
hence the reason that many stalls in portobello/spitalfields markets have signs saying no photos

by coincidence today i found a number of bird Png's in an adobe folder, almost identical to the bird image on the fashion apparel.
here's a simple composition utilising one of the files .. they are great to work with, complete with alpha layer intact, nice one.

not quite sure what the original use is. something to do with after effects templates.
another coincidence is that i am about to email some images to one of the directors of an australian fashion company, due to a conversation two weeks ago.
i should probably refrain from including the birds tho .. heh ..

I believe he should contact the ripper do something abouit it, maybe he is happy but the ripper may be making proffits from some other designers that do need the money and lives in another circunstances.
If I had a design on my web site and some huge company is using it without my permission I would contact them because they arte making money from doing nothing.
Just as a matter of principals he should get in touch at least to get some certification and credit. Who know, probably the design was sold to the t-shirt manofacturer from anothyer designer as "original", who knows.
