so ive just seen a video for a single, which contains some footage they clearly seem to have shot at glade festival... some of which is my vj'ing. the band werent playing in the tent i was in and they didnt ask if it was ok to use it.

where do i stand in this?

naughty boys.

are you just curious or do you want to make a fuss.?
more to the point, is it just a quick flash or is it a major part of the content.

not a major part... couple of flashes totaling about 15 seconds.... but they liked it enough to use clips of my stuff twice and both times it is the main image in the screen, not a coincidental going on in the background. dont realy want to make a big fuss about it, its the principle more than anything, but at the same time i like to keep my "club" visuals in clubs and my video visuals in videos.

more info required:)
like is this a major MTV style video that uses the portions of your VJing as mentioned, or a small time band promoting on youtube.
Also Is it likely that they would mention you in any of the video credits?
seems you must have some connection to them if you have seen the vid in question..
You'll often find that rather than making a fuss, your better served to work with them than against them...

im not in any way connected with them, but they produce breaks, and i lurk a lot on breaks forums and saw the vid posted on one of them. they arent huuuuuge but they are pushing to get in to the charts with this release.

yeah try and get some work out of it.

if that doesn't work out then tell us all who the band is and one of us will end up VJing for them at some point - which is when the "WE Steal From VJAir" projection comes on behind them ;)

I agree. Wait.
From a legal point of view I would say that you have a right to complain they cannot just use your footage for a their commercial enterprises.

A simple analogy would be could you use 15 seconds of their music recorded live at glade without permission in a music track set for chart stardom? I am sure you know the answer to that and I am convinced they would.........

They're unsigned? i reckon a top 10 VJ contacting them about what they've done will make em shit their pants :p

You could try the "Go get the b*****s" approach...or just a sternly worded email could do.

once again....you is right!

spill the beans then..........

let them hit the charts then make them a "proper" video

take it as a compliment..if it makes the chart then you have provided content for a chart act and can use that fact to get budgets for "proper" videos...

most bands make very little cash anyway
