Hi there VJ masters!!

I'm just wondering if anyone has actually modded/hacked a Behringer bcd2000 and managed to build the ultimate-super-sonic midi controller out of it??

I initially bought it as a dj controller/audio interface but right now i'm using it only for visuals and on my mac, so no chance of using audio anyway.

I've tried to google it but i'm just finding mods for other controllers, not this one...

Any ideas appreciated...

Bless!!

Umm sorry, i think this thread should go in the developers area...

Well, it already has midi output, and is midi controllable... so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
The only thing that might be a little tricky to work with is the way the dials work (they output +1 or -1 for each increment they turn, as opposed to a single value 1-127.

What do you mean by super-sonic midi controller?

Well, sorry if i wasn't too clear, I guess that I wanted to see if someone had removed it from its casing, maybe removerd the audio capabilities changed the rotaries... that's modding isnt't it, or i'm i wrong?
Also, since audio is pretty useless on mac (there are no drivers for it) I wondered if they also had removed that...

You should work out what you want to do and why you want to do it before you start!

what's wrong with it in it's current state?

you mention changing the rotary controls? why?

why remove the audio functionality? what are you trying to achieve?

Sorry for not being too explicit. I'm just asking, out of curiosity...

It's just too heavy and bulky, i don't like the looks...

Sorry, i meant the jog wheels, again, i'm just asking...

It doesn't work mac, again, i'm just asking, out of curiosity...

Ok, i guess i wasn't quite clear at the begginning. i just asked out of curiosity. I bought one when it first was available on the UK, and I wasn't into VJing yet, I know use it with vdmx, and it's a great controller, but it's just too bulky for me and I don't like its looks. Sorry for being so "strange"

Are you any good at metal work? do you have a bench drill?

TBH i suspect that when you take it apart you'll find that the PCB inside is a single board with the audio / midi + usb functionality and the physical controllers directly soldered onto it - it might have a separate PSU but this also might be on the single PCB.

So you'll have a hard job getting it into a smaller box - cutting bits off PCBs is not recommended(!) and even if you desolder the controllers you'll end up needing a bigger box to fit new controls into.

if you want a custom midi controller you probably better off starting with one of the doepfer kits or the livid midiy kit

Thanks Tom, yep, i suspect u're right..., i'll still take it apart and see what it looks like, many thanks!!

I see,

Yeah, the next version of the BCDwhatever was mac compatible.
So, if you're a mac person you might want to sell that and get the mac friendly one so you can use the audio side of it.

Otherwise, I agree about it being bulky.
I find myself using my EvolutionUC33 because I get more twiddlers in a smaller bundle.

Still, I think the BCD2000 would be hard to mod in the way you're talking about because the audio functions will confuse matters.
