Hi all,

I'm starting as a VJ and want to buy a laptop with the following specifications : Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz, 256 MB Ram, Graphical chip Mobility Radeon M6-P with 32 MB DDR RAM incl. TV Out.
1. Does anyone know if this system will be sufficient to play my flash/after effects animations ?
2. Is it possible to connect an external graphical card to a laptop ?
3. How important is the graphic chip in the total performance ?
4. Would it be better to buy a regular pc which can easily be upgradet ?

As this laptop is a special offer on wednesday may 29th, I hope someone will reply before that day.

Thank you all very much!!

1. that system should be able to play your animations :)

2. not sure, never heard of it done :(

3. makes the world of difference, frees up other resources :)

4. yes but not that good for live shows, big, bulky etc.:)

btw: is that true that "regular" pc is about 15% faster then
laptop ?

oh boy, here comes the lappy vs. desktop thing....

Yes, in most cases a "regular" PC is faster than the "equivalent" lappy. It comes down to bus-speeds and hard drive speeds.
Some of the newest, best, lappys are very close though.

Do a little comparison, look at what that laptop $$ will get you in a desktop, then decide whats more important to you. Portability or power.
If you can swing a small LCD moniter for your desktop, it gets a bit more managable.
