Just a note to anyone looking to buy a cheap scan converter. This unit is crap. In zoom mode its as if the unit is capturing a 16:9 section of the screen and displaying it in 4:3. This makes for a very ugly squashed image.
I contacted tech support and they told me its suppose to do this. Why? Whats the point?
Looking for a recommendation, something other than one of avermedias products. I'd prefer not to support a company that makes crap equipment.
thanx

whats going on?
I bought my scanny about a year and a half ago, after consulting
the eyecandy group the consensus of opinion was that avermedia were the best around, now it seems everyone is slagging them off both here and on eyecandy, what a turn around in a companies rep.
btw my averkey 300 has been fine, not great but i figured that was down to me buying the ?150 model not the ?300

I used to like my avermedia a lot, but now I'm a corioscan convert. Try to find the vinegen corioscan scan converters, they're great. =]

I'm running an upgraded Trust televiewer 1600 and it's great for ?60. I know the review on this site said you needed a VGA terminator - but mine is just fine without it. Maybe that's what the upgrade was?

looking at the vinegen site the corioscan says it has a 2xzoom
how does that translate into percentage of screen?
it sounds like its only a quarter screen , which aint much

Its very strange about the iMicro. We used one for almost a year until that fucked up aspect ratio thing started happening!
Explain that one.....

currently looking into an averkey 300. anything i should know before buying one? or is there another sub-$200 one that might be better?
if this helps with an answer... i'd be using it on a VAIO laptop running Soak at 640x480, and i'd like to zoom in to the "monitor" area, which is 320x240 [i think] in the center up the screen--up towards the top.
thanks!

the 300 should be ok for that it's zooming is ok but the res is not that great, weve just got a vinegen corioscan and it's worth every penny i wish i'd spent the extra in the first place I'm definately of the opinion that yr scanny is not the right place to cut corners

I've got the averkey 300, but I never use it, the vinegen corioscan we have is way nicer, no scan lines!
