VJing is about breaking the rules. Get ready to unlearn everything you just paid for.:p Do a search on VJF for "Art School" and you'll see that people have mixed feelings about that also.;)

As for getting into VJing, you just started. Welcome to VJ University! (read all the FAQs on VJCentral and you'll have more knowledge than most of us had a year ago.)

if you want to VJ you can start by never taking no for and answer , as you may run in that word more often than not . figure out what kind of gear you want to get use , then were to get the best deals to either buy it or rent it . check for flyers and to contact promoters to do a small room at an event . if they ask you if can you do what ever and you don't know how , just say yes then figure it out later . if i can help in anyway , you can email me any time visuals@bluntfaktory.com good luck with it

i got into vjing after being inspired by coldcut/hexstatic. Only been going 7 months and just started to play out. The first gig was got through word of mouth (via this site), so practise, practise, practise, then get in touch with some local vj's and try to blag a freebie warm up slot. There's only so much you can learn from staring at a tv screen!
btw i have no background in art/mutimedia design and only started using film/editing software 6mths ago. I think a passion and desire to learn is more important than any degree (although it may help with structure)

If you need any advice from another newbie pm me:D

Good on ya pal - I came close to securing a similar mixer, but bottled out after ?150 - will probably hold out for a V4 now, once the new PC arrives (BC tour is paying for that!!!!) Got to also seriously consider a DVD writer now. My ideal portable rig - 2 DVD walkmen and a V4 plus laptop for Flash! Yummy. Feed that lot into the Big Chill VJ rig and we're talking lots of fun. You definitely coming to the Brum gig?

That's what I'm running now, but with VJo. I love it! =]

Uhm, I got into vj'ing when my boss @ the club I work bought 2 beamers and asked me 'to get it up and running'
This was like 5 weeks ago and since then my life is VJ'ing, okay I'm a sound engineer and I like my job but VJ'ing is something new, something incredible addictive, and spending way to much time for way to less money on it I can't stop anymore at this.
Want to become 1? check VJ-central, choose your rig and software and be ready to spend the rest of the year behind your rig trying to find the best footage, mixing the nicest FX, and last but not least listen to the music and anticipating to it.

have fun, I'm already hooked :D

I got into vjing because I was and still am in a band called atelierbleu. (www.atelierbleu.de / but there is nothing on the site yet :( ) anyways: We play triphop and drum'n'bass and we use just a laptop and my voice... so while the music IS exciting the ACT looks rather... boring. After reading an article on apple.com about onadime and another one about vdmx and prophet I figured that live video was the solution for us... and now I'm sort of a vj :D

I got into it after seeing and working with Yeast as well as being inspired by some excellent advice by the peeps on this forum.

I started by purchasing a mini dv cam, some editing software and then started to play around with clips and themes.

I've just done my 4th show and the bug has truly bitten.

LOL - not at all mate! I'm, actually, still a little unused to having folks chuck money at me for doing something I love so much!! At the moment I feed all my profits into ew kit, software etc - and the kids go hungry ;-) Going on tour is going to be an interesting experience - imagine sharing a tour "bus" with Lol, LauraB, Bruce and PeteL!!!

(When I say "Bus" I reckon it''ll be Bruce's "Mysterymobile")

I started Vjing into a semi-professional style for 1 year.
When I was going to clubs and Raves, I was impressed bay videos in some parties.
As I am in a association who organize parties, I met a french well know VJ Xeton, and then this was the begin, and now, I'm working as a second job as VJ (just at start of my careere)

i started to vj less than a year ago at my local arts centre on a course with 2bit.
didn't think it was serious, just thought it was well cool to get into one gig free an have clips of me an my mates gettin high on the screens.
Then realised how amazingly brilliant vj'in is, and it kinda took over my life.
now doing regular gigs an gettin some cash, vj'in at clubs that im 2 years too young to get in to, performin to people that i listen to at home, going backstage having smokes with a bunch of wicked guys, an havin the best time of my life.
not bad for a 16 year old.
keep it up, vj'inis frankly, TH' BOMB!:D

Ok. Here in Brazil is not that easy to start as a VJ mainly because there is no scene for that. You have to create your own job, like a pionner. Producers haven't notice that Vjing is one of the main sourses to make people feel better in a rave or a club. The parties here are definetly not "open minded" as it is in Europe. People aren't sensitive for that. Sounds pessimism? It's only reality for us. 10 years working with images and I still feel like nobody cares around here. Especially cause the payment is aways so low.
Hope to try Chile or even Holland soon!
