Distinguished and irreverent scholar Sande Cohen's talk, "Unimpossible:
On the Los Angeles Art World," April 3rd at the Japanese American
National Museum, launches Art-Talk-Art 2003: The IMPOSSIBLE Series. As a
forum for the creative communities of L.A., Art-Talk-Art has contributed
to the lively discussion of contemporary art and culture in Los Angeles
for over 20 years.

After Cohen's talk, join us for a special fusion program,
"Move-Art-Move," a multi-media intervention on the IMPOSSIBLE theme
organized by Marc Mertens and Erik Qvale, with media jockeys Shane
David, Dax, and John Singer and featuring the L.A. premier of EJ
Sci-K. and his "Scratch TV".

Using two turntables and a mixer, Experience Jockey ScientifiKent (EJ
Sci-K.) mixes video the way a DJ mixes vinyl. Using his uniquely
re-engineered turntable system and software, Sci-K. is able to remix,
beat match and scratch video live. Working with the MIT Center for
Advanced Visual Studies, Sci-K. is founder of EJ Enterprises Worldwide
which develops technology for a new breed of multimedia artist.
Music brought to you by DJs Gabriel D Vine [Cloverclub Recordings,
Subliminal Records] and soul.ID.

Art-Talk-Art
Thurs April 3 | 6.30 pm-9pm

Please join Sande Cohen, Edgar Arceneaux, The Foundation for Art
Resources (F.A.R.) and the Japanese American National Museum for the
launch of "The IMPOSSIBLE Series" April 3rd at 7:30 pm. (and we're not
stopping 'til midnight)
Distinguished and irreverent scholar Sande Cohen will lead off the
series with --"Unimpossible: On the Los Angeles Art World". A brief
conversation between Cohen and artist Edgar Arceneaux will follow the
talk to open the kind of lively general discussion Art-Talk-Art is meant
to be.

The remarkable twenty-year history of Art-Talk-Art has been dedicated to
creating a space where the creative communities of L.A. can come
together to explore contemporary questions of art and culture. Its
programs have been scarce the past few years, but it's back. We hope
you'll be there.
The IMPOSSIBLE Series - Part One, at the Japanese American National
Museum, continues with:
Achille Mbembe -- April 17 and Juli Carson - May 1.

The Foundation for Art Resources (FAR), an artist led, volunteer run,
non-profit organization, was founded in 1977 to facilitate the
production and presentation of work by artists who challenge and expand
the boundaries of established notions of art and art making within the
Los Angeles region.

The Art Talk Art Lecture series is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles
Municipal Art Gallery, a facility of the City of Los Angeles Cultural
Affairs Department and the Japanese American National Museum. The event
is funded in part through a grant from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs
Department.
