Hey Folks- I'm posting this here because we've always had VJs going on before and after our film screenings- this year, as a VJ (MERKABA) and as creative director, I'd like to see shorts from the VJ world to mix with the
experimental/indy films we usually get. OVT provides visuals and infrastructure in the massive lobby, and Alibi delivers fantastic beatmatched retro film samples on the main screen. You've got a great community here at VJCentral, and if any of you are coming to AVIT NA Chicago I'm looking forward to seeing ya!

Since 1999 the UnderShorts Film Festival has been bringing the finest selection of films to discerning Chicago audiences. Ranging from underground to independent to animation to documentary to unclassifiable, we strive to juxtapoze the excitement of every genre, forming, like a collage, an overview of our cultural moment. We look for an independence of expression, for humor and passion, for innovation, for refinement and poise, for beauty and its counterparts, the good and the true. Considering this dire moment in history, it is all the more important to celebrate these qualiites where found in the margins, the underground, in works that either explicitly or implicitly critique or undermine the culture of greed and war.
We take as an inspirational theme works from a previous portentious time- that of 1913 when Stravinskys "Rite of Spring" premiered in Paris, causing a sensation by its embodiment of that pivotal cultural moment. Works submitted can be about anything, of course- our theme will take shape out of their relationships to each other and to our live performances in music, fashion, dance, and live visual mixing, with OVT once again holding forth in the
cavernous lobby of the Congress Theater.
If you have a recent work of 20 minutes or less, from narrative to experimental, even a self-contained excerpt from a VJ set that you would like to have considered for screening in front of up to 2500 lucky Chicagoans, please visit www.undershortsfilmfest.com
to download our submission form, or email me directly at chreode@hotmail.com if you have questions unanswered by the site.
So join the likes of Guy Madden, David Cronenberg, and Bill Plympton and have your work shown at the Undershorts Film Festival, coming this Spring to Chicago!
Please try to get preview copies to us by April 30th, 2003.
