Hi folks,

The wonderful VJzoo crew that are putting together a media festival over in Perth in early dec.

http://bytemefest.blogspot.com/

Its all coming together nicely and it will probably be the largest single Aust VJ gathering since ElectroFringe2000.

The point of my post is that they have spoken to me with regards to co-branding the festival as the first Aust AVIT, and all that entails.

Now in the past I know permission was sort and once granted promotional material etc was provided from previous events.

So who gives the nod?

I can totally vouch for the VJzoo crew, they have already put together a solid lineup of artists and speakers (hell my fiancee is even letting me fly over the week before our wedding ;) ) and it looks like it will be a great event and it would be excellent for VJC/F to have a supporting presence.

There is no official AVit anymore, but you want to set up an AVit.au website, you can get the web pages from AVit NA..

there is still some people eating green bananas, and in process of reorganisation. just not sure how to give the support they may need or expect.

Even after a couple of years visiting these forums I'm yet to figure out what AVIT actually stands for. Every website I visit does not spell out the acronym???

Thanks for the plug MoRpH! Really looking forward to you coming over to Perth for it and a million thanks to your fiancee for lending you to us :)

We'll hopefully be meeting with Paul Mumford and others in London in a couple of weeks, we can discuss AVIT requirements then - I will post separately about that, hoping we can get a bit of a VJ Soiree happening in London when we're there, like the one VJ France have organised for us when we're in Paris the week before.

And really hope to see as many VJ's as possible in Perth in December - everyone's welcome!

tee hee motionreactor - you think its possible for a nebulous community based organisation to actually agree what the word stands for, or even whether its an acronym or not! most people stopped trying to agree and just got on with the events =]

fwiw, the name came about as audio-visual information transmission, if you find the original thread round here somewhere.

more seriously, it was stories of electrofringe via nick ritar that was my personal inspiration for getting that first event off the ground, so it would be great for the mantle to be passed back there.

looking forward to seeing Kat, and to be cryptic, what fred said.

Re: audio-visual information transmission.
Never saw that thread:)
anyhow, AVit really has now lived it's life and has been retired gracefully.
time to move on..

Ah good to hear it was an inspiration to others, it certainly was a pivitol event in Aust VJ culture.

Cheers to all that were there and are still VJing

Hope you're listening, Sean? (jeanp00le) See what you started!

We're really hoping Sean can make it over to be involved in BM!F. As well as Electrofringe, his Plug n Play in Melbs inspired us to start ours here in Perth. He's off on an amazing roadtrip with Turkey's Artificial Eyes that looks like VJ legend in the making:

Hmm... to use the AVit name or not? Pixylight says not, Toby and Paul M say is OK... and certainly it makes a difference in terms of international profile - eg if I approach potential sponsors who may help to get some of the internationals here. I have a great venue due to local govt sponsorship, but can only help out with airfares if I can get Corporate sponsorship.

So... here's my thoughts:

AVit-AU, a self-contained VJ Festival under the umbrella of BM!F. Will have it's own Program, and I will rework the BM!F website to brand the VJ Festival as an entity in it's own right. My guess is that visiting VJs will also be interested in the wider BM!F events too (eg digital content business models seminar, speakers from Weta Digital, EA Games, Dreamworks, CreateDigitalMotion etc), but I also see the need to curate/market the VJ side of the Festival as a self-contained event.

We've already had enquiries from VJs around the world, and using the AVit brand will help to encourage it to be an international event.

As much as possible given the fact that they're both kinda busy with wedding planning and epic roadtrips, MoRpH and jeanp00le will be involved in planning, curation etc at a strategic level.

Solu will also be coming (thanks, Finland!) which means there will be a more serious Live Cinema aspect to the Festival as well. And then there's the Vintage AV event where Fairlight CVIs will accompany Commodore 64's and 1970's Casio keyboards - hopefully featuring early AV pioneers Severed Heads.

So all round, I think we'll have a good, balanced Program of performances, workshops, panels, exhibition.

Look forward to meeting some of you in London in 2 weeks :) We can talk about the details then, but meanwhile - is anyone strongly opposed to us using the name AVit-AU as per above?

I'm not against using the name AVit for festival such as this by any means.
I am however pointing out that The AVit branding is in need of rebranding, as it has assumed a diferent idenity in the UK, and with the UK being the birthplace of AVit's, needs to be revamped. The avit.co.uk site that hosted the original AVit site is no longer, and we here need to figure out what in the future will replace it as a VJ Forums festival.
I think that for us outside of the UK, we can still use AVit as a tag, and have those named fests, but should move on to a new branding that will be inclusive of all internation A/V festivities..

Yep! Jaymis and maybe even Peter Kirn too :D

Jaymis managed to wrangle the Bobby Flynn tour to end up in Perth just as BM!F starts. Good planning, mate! (there's no such thing as coincidence....)
