Vdmx 3 needs a G4 bottomline. and i think VDMX v2 will work on a g3.

The eMac IS a G4 ! Duh.

http://www.apple.com/emac/specs.html

G4 700 or 800, GeForce2 32MB DDR, 256k L2 cache. 17" flat CRT built in.

Modest, but not bad for $999

Biggest downside is it's heavy an there's no handle on the bastard. Get a flight case made for it.

just wanted to say, an emac for vjing, humm bizzare choice, i would'nt bother mate... is it a desktop? is it a laptop? no its somewhere completly impactically in the middle. after 2 gigs you'll be regreting having to lug that built in crt around, maybe the new imac would be better if thats the style you want. or just get a laptop dude, at least then you can use it anywhere, anyhows does'nt the e in emac means educational and you don't wanna look like a learning student in a club :)

unsless you've got your heart set on VDMX, i'd suggest spending the same money on a second hand pc laptop. macs are over priced and under powered compared to pc counter parts, and if your just beigning then theres a lot more choice of software to play around on pc's, with generally less grief than the McMotorola.
i know that pc users are all desperate to switch to the 'simplicity of macs', but at the end of the day its all hype, for speed, and compatibilty unfortuanalty pc's are better equiped.

this is coming from a mac and a pc owner for the last 5yrs, and pls i'm not trying to start a mac-pc battle just helping this guy make the right first choice.

your problem will be that the emac only supports monitor mirroring while I believe the best way of using VDMX is with the interface on one monitor and the output on another.

You may be able to hack the emac to do true dual monitor spanning like some of the ibooks can do.

Apple only puts dual monitor spanning enabled in the OS into their "pro" machines the Powerbook or G4 Tower so you really want one of those for VDMX.
