Yeah, widen this topic out to cover everything about buying/making your own practical screen (don't need suggestions about sceens out of smoke or other such wierdness!).

I was looking into projection paint recently; the name that kept popping up was 'Rosco', and they also make screens:

has some prices (looks like $18 a yard for 55'' wide screens), and it's in Hollywood, so you might be able to check some out for yourself.

They're mainly sold to theatres, so they're fire retardant.

I have been a bit spoiled up to now with a simple dual view fast fold screen. I want to look at options for a 20 ft. screen and I am looking all over for fabric that comes in wide bolts. Granted I sew and could probably sew two pieces together - who wants to deal with that??

I found some suggestions on here allready. And I am looking at this site https://www.dazian.com

But my main question is has anyone tried a really cheep route and just projected on muslin or a 50/50 cotton polyester blend?

Did anyone try rear projection?

plain white nylon curtain sheer farbic works quite well for RP. You loose more light than you would with a purpose built fabric but it does well in a pinch. It's also more durable.

I've found it in 9' bolt widths... it's about four bucks a yard. works a treat

I am using "Vinyl Coated Wind Screen" I do lose some light but wind screen is a must for our outdoor gigs. The wind here in Hawaii can be brutal. I have seen more than one screen destroyed due to wind gusts. I even had one crash down on the DJ booth, luckily it was before the gig had even started and no one was hurt. You can get some pretty cheap windscreen from S&O. They are out of Tennessee.
