View Full Version : What new feature do you want?

Well I'm almost done with implementing the new backend system of VJCentral (you can't see much of it, but it should enable me to release the code as open-source...) and I'm thinking about new features I could add. Here are some ideas:
VJ Events - with events listed on main page, comments. That would not include each and every gigs VJs do, but VJ-oriented events like vjs.net, videa, vectors, vj workshops, etc.
Gigs Pictures - with comments, ratings
Files Sharing - only small files due to bandwidth limitations (flash anims, visualjockey fxc, images, pd shemes, etc)
Gear Marketplace - something a bit like eBay, although I'm not sure how to implement this (now I think about it, I don't think I should have included it on the poll!)
DVD/video/VCD reviews - review of DVDs, I think it might be useful as more and more VJs are releasing DVDs. DVDs not specifically for VJs or DVDs which are not license-free could also be reviewed, since they can be a great source of inspiration IMO.
Journal - Something like LiveJournal (http://www.livejournal.com) or Blogger (http://www.blogger.com), with members able to post whatever they want and comment. Another great source of inspiration IMO, and a great way to know more about fellow VJs.
Please vote for your favourite and feel free to leave comment and maybe suggest other sections :)

Just to note the page builder over @ audiovisualizers.com is pretty perfectly setup for journal/diary type stuff..... oh and it has image gallery stuff too... so I think we should go with the small file sharing. Bring on the commandpost templates :)

I agree that we should try to add something that isn't available on community.audiovisualizers.com. I would go for an event calendar (but I also like the file sharing idea). What I would really like to see in the event calendar is some kind of filters like : location (by continent, by country and by city) type (art festival, VJ workshop, VJ show transmission on the net, VJ event) and of course by date (from this day/month to this day/month what are the X type of events occuring in Y country for example). This would greatly help extending the reach of VJcentral out of the virtual world, giving the members more opportunities to meet and set meetings in the real world ;)

yep morph, dave contacted me about it, I hadn't noticed the journal feature there, so I guess I'll put off this for now... i dunno about the file sharing feature yet, it seems to be a lot of work for not much use. if it's the most request feature, i'll go for it though.

many2, i agree with your idea but I think that at the beginning there won't be tons of VJ events (probably a few per months) so this seems rather unnecessary. A filter which highlight events in your area is something i'll definitely add later though :)

on a related note: 40 views and only 4 votes? come on people, i guess lots of you are used to be passive but is it too much to ask to choose between 6 options? voting is probably one of the most "passive action" possible.....

i think dvd/vcd/video reviews are most important to help push the community.

Its (community.av) not specifically a journal type setup, but basically the way it is setup lends itself to it, with dated input text fields, etc.

OK well sounds like the next sections will be the events calendar and the videos review. They both seem like perfect additions to VJCentral. Don't know which one I'll do first, we'll see :) I finished to convert the VJCentral code to the new format yesterday.

Thanks to the 8 people who took time to vote...
