Well that's probably one of the most challenging weekends I've had for some time....hosting Rovastar is not easy:)......Only joking John;) More about Johns visit shortly.
Sat night saw me at Ultra+ in the Factory in Birmingham with a larger than normal production for a rare visit of Trentemoller. Playing a Live set with DJ T.O.M which went down a storm.
The production finally twisted my arm into investing in a Kramer matrix...trying to hire one at short notice is just impossible up in my neck of the woods. A few photos below of my larger than life rig are self explanatory...any questions...or points from the experts would be appreciated. I wouldn't normally have so much but had to get a few Press shots so hense the doubling up of DVJ's and controllers.
Projection was onto 2 x 7x5m rear projection screens positioned either side of the stage and 2 plasma screens behind the DJ's. As the matrix was only recieved a few hours prior to the gig no fancy programming had be done, I still managed to mix up the show and it most definitely added another dimension rather than the usual same picture on all screens. I found fairly plain flashing colours worked well when mixed around the screens with a strobe effect added.
The Numark VM03 MkII screens worked a treat an monitored my DVJ's and DV cam inputs. Although 4:3 I would recommend them due to their price and the clarity and picture are superb. NuVJ and Arkoas on the Laptops, some of the work recorded live for later use on the DVD HD recorder.
No technical hitches, no accidental projections or blue screens....which is more than I can say for Sunday night:)
Easter Sunday found me starting where I had left off in the Factory for my second of the B2B easter gigs. This time round in the usual club space with the Stanton Warriors, Meat Katie, Switch, Pete Jordan and Hexidecimal. Set of the night for me was supplied by young Hexidecimal...no wonder he won a prize at the Breakspoll awards...I've accompanied him many at time but Sunday he was on form. Anyone into their Breaks music should try to catch one of his sets soon....highly recommended. Switch too played a very entertaining set.
I had the added bonus on Sunday of a vist by our very own Rovastar. Must say it was funny seeing the DJ's having to fight their way past John to get to their supply of beer which had made it's way over to our end of the booth;)......after we had drunk ours of course:)
John proceeded to have a few short spells of VJ'ing which was a nice break for a change, he also inspired me to spend more time with my V4 and it's menu facility:)....cheers John it was good to see you. Hope you enjoyed it....by your dancing I'd say you did.
