Hello VJforums,
following on from this thread (http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?t=19830)
i'm happy to announce that the Pointless Crew is back from ColOmbia without any significant injuries.
here's our report:
http://www.pointlesscreations.co.uk/pixelazo
I couldn't recommend more this country, it's great, people love a good party and are so clued up on VJing (dead into their culture and arts in general and are a great audience).
Bogotrax had as many Video acts as it had Audio acts and both were given the same importance (check the programme (http://bogotrax.free.fr/programacion.htm)), and Pixelazo is just ripe for open minded VJs.
For anybody who has balls and knows how to fill up an arts grants application, this is are 2 great opportunities.
To answer the questions/ advice from the previous thread:
[Deep] kidnapping: not in that many parts of the country (changes) and not if you hang out with the locals. Only targets business ppl and Cattle ranchers (read undercover right-wing coke barons)
[steveG]: no change to my insurance premium (photoguard), carrying a weapon would have definitely been a bad idea.
[Oli and Tom]: Coke costs ?1 a gram, the colombians don't use a straw but their house key to put a bit on their hand as you'd snuff tobacco. It's not meant to be the purest quality as it's reserved for export (Venezuela, US). It's still a shit drug and turns people into wankers just like here- besides it is such a big issue regarding the civil war that most "good people" regard it with a lot of contempt.
50p gives you a week's supply of weed, you can buy rum in litre cartons, E's are the best/strongest i've had in years, and all these are nothing sompared to some of the Amazonian herbals used in shamanic ceremonies... so i hear.
[deep]: yes, bribing is still an institution, luckily didn't have to resort to it though.
[Jasper]: yes I have met and played along with Laura (she came to our workshop). She is gorgeous, in fact 80% of VJs seem to be gorgeous girls over there (and there there was no shortage of VJs)... the funny thing, I asked her twice about VJjasper from VJforums and she couldn't remember you! it must be a myspace thing... a place where being someone's friend only means "thanks for the ad".
[deep again]: they just love hardcore content and wouldn't batter an eyelid at religion bashing. in fact, look at the photos on our report, You'll see some "Che Guevara" images on hand held screens held by 10 years old kids- it doesn't really constitute "sensitive" content in our cultural landscape, but this was taking place in Comuna 13 (http://www.colombiajournal.org/colombia137.htm), a place under right wing paramilitary control (overlooking the proceedings), where all leftist guerilla where dragged in the strrets and shot only 4 years ago... over there, they just don't seem to have the same appreciation of what's risky as we do (just cross the street during rush hour to find out).
[rayV]: hope you enjoy the read...
Pointless adventures continue this summer at the circus (http://www.basslinecircus.org)
