I've ordered an oxygen8 keyboard and I wanted some advice on which was the best software to use with it.
We don't use effects much and would be looking for a good system to just run our clips of with the midi keyboard, changing things like speed etc.
My Laptop also only runs from one screen as the dual monitor function won't work, so i need software which doesn't have a problem with this way of working.
Could I ask for any of your opinions on this setup, I'm pretty much tied between two packages Arkaos and Resolume. I'm also taking into consideration the price difference in the packages.
Thanks for your time.

well it depends what you're looking for.
Buy a scanny in any way,as i dont own arkaos,i can't say you a lot about it but if you're looking for a software to play your clips with a few effects, spped changing, luma key mode, masks, transitions,go for resolume !

I've got tv out on the laptop which works fine. It just means that i can't use the interface while the machine is outputting the clips. Does this mean i will be okay without the scan converter?

Komart said it all right, but since your needs are not so demanding you can try also the freeware route with MidiVid... it seems to be written just for Midi control and indeed what you are after.
Best at all, it wont burn a hole in your pocket ;)

I currently use arkaos on a desktop with an oxygen 8 as the midi control. Works perfect.
I did use it on a lappie but had a problem with the full screen function - I reckon I need a scan converter to allow for it to work, but on the whole arkaos and the oxygen works like a dream - especially if you have a lot of prepared clips to run with.
by the way daryl - like what you did with the wakjob logo for colin

I use the Oxygen 8 with Resolume and love it.....I am using it on a desktop with a matrox card so I have no problems with having a user interface.
Resolume is very easy to get into and produce good results - I don't use many effects but it is very easy to set the keyboard to trigger an effect as well as trigger clips. Latency (the time between hitting a key and the clip triggering) is very low, a good thing in my book! I have assigned the slider to control the activated clip which seems to work well for me.
One thing that resolume may not be so good for if you haven't got the UI showing is switching between decks. I may be wrong (someone please tell me I am!!) but you can't assign a key to load a new deck in, if you can it would make it ideal in my opinion.

concerning resolume and midi controlers, Is there a learn function for getting midi continous controllers numbers set for the various fx's in resolume? Can't I edit the Midi controler numbers by simply typing in the CC numbers?? (Resolume won't let me type anyting in the midi controller box)??
thanks....

while I'm asking, is there anyway to change the monitor size from 1024x768 to 800x600?? (which is all my lappy can do:confused: ) I would like to use resolume, but can't because of the XGA restiction...
thanks again!!

sorry pixylight, i think the GUI of resolume is stuck at 1024, and can't be changed.... (someone please correct me if i am wrong here)
have you folks that use resolume and midi been able to figure out how to assign a effect to an individual channel, as opposed to globally? i know the keyboard shortcut is ctrl+[effect key], but i can't seem to get resolume to do anything when i hit ctrl and a midi key.....it just assigns that effect globally...
i posted more details about this question in the hardware forum in this thread (http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=2132)
anyone have any luck with this?
