Hi you all,
@ first a small introduction... I'm new at this and for the club I work for I need to make some kind of VJ set up, wich also should be used without VJ....*yeah I know...*
So I got a copy of Dancer DNA from a friend, installed it, fixed a DLL problem and got to work.
Now I don't know if anyone from you guys have worked with it but everything works 'till the great moment of dancing when there's only like 16 pixels in the center who appaer and they can be controlled with the mouse like it's a preview...
I really don't know what the problem is, there's music is running, machine is big enough (P IV 2,4Ghz,256Mb&nVidia64Mb) but the damn thing won't dance...
Does anyone know besides Dancer DNA a similar stand-alone-doing nice visual things on music-programm? :D
thnx ahead,
Michiel

Sound input can often be an issue with PC's, with some bits of software grabbing hold of it and not letting other apps get a feed even once there closed down, get somthing like CD Spectrum Pro to analyse your sound inputs, and controls there levels. (can you get a live feed through winamp?)
Or it could be an issue with the animation/morphing you have set the Dancer DNA to run at, when this soft is properly configured, and has sound input it is very very responsive, it's nothing to do with the power of your machine :)
Good Luck

I have the same problem after instaling it on a brandnew laptop (it's running perfect on any older machines).
I know it must have something to do with the sound-card/settings, couldn't get the line-in at winamp either to run. After a while I figured out that windows-media-player converts everything to a mp3-stream (even a playing music-cd !) maybe the problem lies in there somehow (normally it's cda). I donn't know a solution tho, I guess you have to fool around with the settings (I will certainly).
Anyone any suggestions ?

Dancer DNA reacts to the aspects of the music set in the music dialog box. If it cant here them, it wont do anything, so make sure the mic sensitivity is right and that the programm is receiving audio. When you click the mouse button it "grabs" the dancer and doesnt (as far as i know) let it become music reactive again without restarting the dancer (but as you have the genespace already rendered that takes about 5 seconds!

That's where it goes wrong, when I install the updated version the installer gives an audio-set-up field, guess what, no audio, no player control.

I'm aware of that, you can adjust the volume and angle with your right mousebutton (volume=how big it is, not the sound ;) ).

thnx alot for the reactions so far!
but....I guess my audio configuration is okay, I can start my cd from the 'Anitmate' dialog box & it seems like to do something but then again it ends with just a few pixels in the center of the screen
we'll keep trying!

Ehmz, cd music often is played analogue to the soundcard, which causes you to hear the cd, but the software to be unaware of it.

haye all!!
It's solved, and acctually quiet easy, I just had to turn up the music sensitivity in the music dialog box and there it was! *happy me* :)
till laters,

Last time I looked, i was wanting to buy a registration key for Dancer DNA, but I thought the company had folded.
Can someone help out and send me a link to a web site where I can purchase a license for it?
Thanks,

yeah i was one of those souls that BOUGHT a copy of dancerDna... then sometime later i lost the reg key and went back to the Nottinghill site and guess what ...they had folded!
Anyhow I remember reading very clearly in the manual that it said to START the music Cd or whatever BEFORE you started the morphing animation rendering...
I was actually quite unimpressed by the software itself after the initiall 'OOOOoooh" factor of seeing the alien worms animate for the first time..
as it actually was pre renderend morph-anims that were generated and then looped thru in time to music, after about a minute, you can see a distinct pattern forming of cycling anim loops.
What I THOUGHT initially from the literature and hype on their site was that the DNA creature actually morphed in realtime continously to live music, not that prerendered banks would be created and then loop around randomly like avi clips
Secondly I wasted $$$ in cross atlantic phone calls to them to ask them for the promised DNA creature creator or a simple 3ds exporter for the much hyped promise of 3d advertising support in clubs.
All in all, its an ok softwre to put on a spare lappy and plugin your set if you experience a crash on your main rig.
(damn i have so many gripes....... and I mentioned MoRpH one time too many :) )

If Nottinghill has gone bust...
is there anyone here that might like to share their registration key? I'd even kick ya a few bucks via PayPal to help lower your registration cost you spent a few years back. ;)
Seems a shame to let Dancer DNA die for lack of knowledge of registration keys... and the lack of an entity that can take money in exchange for providing new keys.
See the comment about snagging a copy from a friend...

A Google search also revealed 1 or 2 sites in the UK that still have the software for sale, but do you really want to buy software from a reseller that, presumably, has no publisher (Nottinghill) to forward your money on to? Plus, I'm in the U.S. so those sites don't do me any good. (It seems I can NEVER find an online UK store that ships internationally!!!)

i really dont know if the entire company has gone bust or if they have only stopped DancerDna..
they were last heard of doing a 3d game and coming out with a new version of dancerdns .. evolution2 or something i recall.
reason being is that even if you get a copy of the soft, they were charging a licence fee for club performances.
So you wouldnt wanna be caught unawares in case they still in business ;)

Yes, Nottinghill are no longer with us, i used to vj for them.
So i doubt you will find any new versions.
However, part of the team behind dna have been working on VVJ for a number of years, and we are using it at various events, and it kicks dna's ass! lol
some details-
VirtualVJ (VVJ for short) is 2Ci's exclusive real-time, audio-reactive, 3D graphics engine. Developed entirely in-house, VVJ is under continual development and refinement and has already notched up a impressive track record at clubs, arena events and music festivals throughout the UK. It has been custom written to be programmable with any image, 3D model, brand, product, logo or message, in either 2D or 3D, and to then make this content dance and react instantaneously to virtually any kind of music or other sound
As a video jockey tool VVJ is arguably unparalleled in terms of it's flexibility, speed and responsiveness. Designed from the ground up to be capable of incorporating club logos and brand identities, it has quickly earned a strong reputation amongst sponsors and promoters alike. It has been used extensively at countless large scale music events in front of audiences of thousands and is increasing regarded as an essential component of such productions. It enables logos to have stronger and bolder presence without becoming too intrusive and can generate hours of unique, dynamic, non-repeating, imagery. 2Ci's visual displays can effectively and seamlessly integrate brand imagery with musical environments and our projections often become the dominant focal point for the crowd. They are eye-catching and entertaining, relevant, responsive and informative at a level that posters, banners and traditional gobo lighting can never achieve.
This image was captured directly from VVJ's real-time 3D rendering engine at resolution of 640x480 whilst consistently maintaining animation speeds of >70 fps (Pentium III 933Mhz, 512Mb SDRAM, ATi Radeon 7500 64Mb AGP).
