I have noted that there are many pieces of software around that can create wonderful works with graphics etc..
The question I have is simple?
Is there any software program that can bascially just enable the VJ to mix avi files adding effects in real time and giving the flexibility of being either placed in manual or live assist mode or automated.
If there is such a software package, anyone got a name for such a gem? Simple operation in a live environment is what I search for...
I currently use modified dual CD players with decoders for VCD along with a digital vision mixer etc..
Hope someone can help!!
Thanks.....

visualJockey R3 is what you are looking for. With some preparation you can build shows with different levels of interactivity. For example, you can set the "events configuration" of a show to jump to the next effect composition in the playlist accoding to one of the following events : multiple timers, keyboard strokes, music context change, sound context change, beat 1/8 (or 1/16, 1/32, 1/64). In addition to being able to move forward in the playlist of effect compositions (FXC), each of theses events can trigger actions such as go backward, goto, jump to sublist, show color screen, change overlay FXC, toggle overlay FXC, random, etc.
You also have to know that each of the FXC in your interactive playlist can also be set to dynamically change its effects parameters in real-time. These parameters can be connected to any combination of keyboard input, sound analysis, curve oscillators, mouse and joystick input or even MIDI signals. This gives you a maximum of possibilities between complete automation and complete manual control.

Is there a demo available? I'd like to test that software...

I seen a pic of modified CDJ 500's that played VCD. The loop and pitch functions worked perfectly but the tempo button didn't. It was designed for audio.
Cant remember where I seen it though.

The Modified CD Players I use are Denon. My technician sourced the decoders from a company in China.
The decoders take around an hour to install, must be done by a technician and they work perfectly.
They costs around $300 (Australian) each. Most if not all of the functions on the Dual CD player still work as if it was new.
I'll find out a little more as to where they were sourced and i'll get back to you guys.
Thanks!

SEE MORPH!!!!!
And you said it would be too hard.....
Yes, please, please, please find out what you can about this mod and post the info in a seperate thread under hardware.
This is exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for and I really believe its got great potential in this field.

OK time for my 5c into the thread.....
Firstly on the subject of V/CD modded denons..... if you read my previous posts, you will see that I said it had been done, but I didn't know anyone that could do it currently..... and denons don't have a scratch function (to my knowledge) like the pioneer units. If you talking about the hardware FX thread were it came up I simply thought a single input into a video ram dump sampling made more sense than trying having to put things down onto VCD first.
$300 for the dual CD player & the mod installed???? well that would be a bargain.... yeah BigG post any info, pics, contact details for the technician, company, etc here or over on vjcentral i'm sure a LOT of ppl would be interested.
I would say BigG its obvious your a hardware man so I would use realtime hardware FX if i was you.... try to find yourself a fairlight CVI, the best hardware FX box around (shouldn't be to hard to get one as they were made in aust (i'm in syd))..... you prolly have heard of them if not check my review here http://www.vjcentral.com/hardware/show/52 ..... You can create and store sequences of FX for an automated setup...... Or you could wait till hopefully maybe par-i and I get my hardware FX unit built and in production.
As for performing with software there are loads of softwares that can mix .avi's, check out the reviews on www.vjcentral.com and over @ www.audiovisualizers.com for automation some have it built in but don't limit youself to that..... its easy to automate ANY program that has midi in by using a basic midi sequencer running in the background and feeding its midi output into the software via midiyoke (www.midiox.com) or hubi's loopback.
