Yea HD DVD(no hyphen)players have been out since April 2006, but there were hardly any HD DVD's to play in them. Now that it is 2007, Hollywood is starting to get more out.
As to who will win the HD consumer battle/war(like the old VHS vs. BetaMax) if the porn industry (http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/01/11/ces2007_hddvd_blu_ray/) has their way(like the VHS vs. BetaMax), then it will be HD DVD.

As a person that works in a DVD retail outlet, we already have a fair selection of HDVD and Blu-Ray.
Shitty from our perspective, because they cost more and rent less.
Not much incentive to stock them other then pure video store hubris. I.E. We being the elite store carry the latest formats. Not at all ta profitable venture at this point.
