Well after a few hiccups along the way, i finally got this thing sorted, thanks to everyone that helped with advice on the setup and extra hardware (deepvisual, thanks again mate).

The photographer didnt seem to take any wide shots of the whole setup, but the screens basically formed a wall in front of the decks.

Setting up...

If anyone gets the chance to try this, do. it's a completely different experience mixing for a multitude of small screens rather than just a couple of small ones. you end up paying much less attention to insignificant delails and start playing with moving the light and points of interest around the screen, because the effect is much greater when, say the main light in the image is bouncing from left to right on the beat, the overall effect of what you do is much more intense.

Oh, and it's also very difficult for people to ignore the visuals, which meant i had lots of positive feedback from people who'd actually paid some attention to the visual setup. :D

Bigger and better next time though - watch this space.

DVNT......nice
I have been daisychaining those cheapo radioshack distribution boxes ($49)
to interconnect the TV's is there another way?
Could you hook up a matrix to have one full image all accross the tvs?

Nice work Mr Justin.

Thats a lot of tvs to shift around......

You have the remotes for all of them too? ;-)

Cheers for the feedback guys!

Ha! no didnt have all the remotes, i think that would've added to the headache.

Split the signal using by daisychaining a couple of distribution amps, then sending one of the split signals off to an rf modulator, and then on to 2 rf distribution amps (cos i got one cheap and found another in the loft in our house). Some of the TVs couldnt be switched over to AV input without the remote, so i ended up using many more aerial inputs and manually tuning the tvs in than i'd hoped.

as for cabling, found a big bag of 20 scart leads with breakout video (phono) on ebay for ?2, and 2m coax aerial cables from cpc for about 42p each.

For next time i found this absolute BARGAIN on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160069416317&rd=1&rd=1), but couldnt get it in time for the gig.

@Cat: that pyramid stack looks great. How much K had you given the people in front of them though? ;)

@baron: Goldsmiths uni - gives me the opportunity to set up something like this which i wouldnt really otherwise be able to do elsehwere.

Amazingly they just provided their own!
It was an arts festival that has events on city centre wide, I presume they were dance students, I didnt manage to get their numbers unfortunatly! They sussed out that it was recording loops of people moving in front of the TV's so just played around, which was great!
I was going to get intouch when you posted that you need tv's but they would have had to get picked up and returned as I want to keep hold of them for the time being!
I got them all ( and more!) for ?20 which covered the petrol and the van, they were getting decomissioned by a security company a friend works at, they would have had to pay ?5 per TV to decommision, so we both got a bargain!
Carting then all a round is the worst bit of installations like this!
If you do it again and can get a van, your free to borrow them next time, all got comp in on BNC too!

nice jobs justin and cat, ive been toying with the idea of doing this for the beachbreaks live fest, using tvs instead of a screen for the centre stage picture so the bands dont get blinded by a projector. i just dont know if ive got enough time to do the extra car runs to bring over enough tvs!

you're welcome to borrow some of mine dude, i've still got about 12 knocking around here, plus distribution amps, rf modulator, masses of rf cables etc.. you'd need to pick it up from here in london of course, but the offer's there. maybe we can do a swap for that super8 projector for the weekend?!

cheers for the offer, but it would be more hassle than its worth to get them from london i think! you're welcome to borrow a super8 projector anytime you wanna come pick it up!
or i could let you know next time im goin up country and bring one up...
