We have now confirmed the details of the CND benefit gig that we are doing in April.
It will be on Friday 4th April at the Sanctuary (Cap 2500) in Birmingham.
It will be a free party with three rooms of music,a spoken word room and a chillout room.
Some of the artists that are confirmed are:
Bentley Rhythm Ace
Cutmaster Swift
Steve Gerrard
Atomic Hooligan
Sir Real
Jay Cunning
2 Sinners
Magicians from 'Monkey Magic'
Mark Thomas
There are some other big names TBC but I don't want to tempt fate by naming them at this stage...
The money raised at the gig is going to the 'white ribbon' fund launched by the CND and several other NGOs today.
What they have done is to serve Tony Blair and other leading members of the UK Government with a legal 'letter before action' stating that if any weapons or tactics banned under international law are used in any war against Iraq (as they were in 1991), efforts will be made to bring a case against them with the International Criminal Court at the Hague. Details here (http://www.cnduk.org/PRESS/press125.htm)
Money from this and other benefits, along with money from sales of white anti-war ribbons, will be used to do as much as possible to make our leaders accountable for their actions over the coming weeks and months.
Visuals are going to be an important tool for reminding people that attend that this is more than a free party - we'll be using the screens to put across a strong anti war and anti nuclear message and, hopefully, inspire people with some ideas about positive things they can do.
If anyone wants to get involved with the event then please do let us know ASAP. Obviously, content is going to need to have an anti-war theme.
If you've got some beamers that could be used at the gig, some suitable content or simply want to lend a hand then get in touch with either me or Tom (PilotX) and let us know. The more the merrier.
Cheers,
Dan.
