Doesn't appear to be. I just posted a message in Software and it showed up right away, but I don't see any recent messages posted by you there though. Odd.

Its not intentional. The forum was getting more spam, so theres a filter that attempts to eliminate this spam automatically. Unfortunately it ocasionally thinks real posts are spam, and puts them in moderation queue rather than letting them appear straight away, If it happens too often we'll ahve to look at changing its behaviour somehow.
I dont seem to be able to make your posts show up right now, and must go to sleep now, but hopefully someone else will make your post show up soon, sorry for the inconvenience.

Maybe we could change the splash page that appears after you post to say we are moding to reduce spam. Since we are moding, you can remove my double post :lol2:
So people/bots actually join VJF to spam?

Well, found out about moderating while trying to post in the Gigreports-forum. My post hasn't showed up yet (it was about the D-fuse event in Eindhoven) and my PM to Alangeering (moderator) wasn't answered.
Too bad, takes away my enthusiasm to start any new thread.

Ditto with 2 consecutive replies to the "Solu thesis" thread in resonance yesterday.

Unfortunately, no one around here is paid to spend time deleting all the spam that comes our way. Sorry about the inconvenience of it all, but then think when you post! If it looks like spam, it will get caught!

if it looks like you are promoting a particular product you might get caught. It might be better when we get VB3 up(elbows might know more here)

We're already on vbulletin3.5 so thats not the answer. We need to hack the anti-spam bot so that it doesnt treat people with a lot of posts the same as those with none, who have just signed up to spam. I havent even looked at how hard this is, but it seems like more and more valid posts are getting caught as spam.
The other non-techie way to improve things is to get some more people to help with moderation. We've lost quite a few people over the years and not replaced them all, maybe its time for some new blood to add to the team?

I can help during office hours if you like. Provided I don't do something silly and get fired...

it seems to pick posts up that have a few links to other componys - hense the last few posts that have come up for moderation by regular posters all have quite a few links to other places/biznesis - carnt think of a work around for peeps atm - apart from not puting excesive links in there posts - which in tern would probebly defeate the purpose of the post

is it not possible to change to registration period? does vjforums use those digits in weird shapes in the box? is that kinda thing easy to get by now with spam bots?

I posted twice to an old thread last night - two lines of text and a lot of photos. No sign of it, but all my faceitious spamming turns up instantly.
I guess it would have come under the catergory of excessive links in the post as it had about 8 photos.

i posted a link to a section of the manual of resolume that hasn't shown itself. I saw it after I posted it and the background of it was all grey and there was a green man thing in the bottom right. Then I refreshed as I thought bg looked weird and it wasn't there.

Hmmm sorry about this. When the anti-spambot was first turned on, it didnt seem to have hardy any false-positives, but it looks like that was just a fluke, and that quite a regularily used posting style here, is triggering it.
Will definately have to do something technical to make this situation a bit better, please bear with us as it wont happen overnight, but will happen this year!
On the moderators front, thanks for the offers so far, Im not in charge of any of that stuff, I wont be driving this forwards or be the one to say yes, welcome , we accept your offer, Ive jut started the ball rolling about it.

To the person who got a slow response from me, I'm very sorry, I have been busy and working on a new PC (not so much online). I'm now back and operational and happy to un-moderate any posts of yours that get caught.

My last two posts also got caught, one to Software and one to Developers. Both posts were short on text and contained a couple of links. I'm guessing it's the ratio of text to links that triggers the bot. I wonder if this means padding my post with a nice Unix manual page would have gotten it through? A very silly but possibly amusing experiment.
I agree that the bot should consider how long the user has been registered. Theoretically a spammer could take advantage of this by signing up and then lurking for months before suddenly letting fly with an orgy of spam, but it seems a bit far-fetched.
The bot could also consider total number of posts, but that might have side-effects (positive feedback?).
How do other forums handle this problem?
Actually this post itself will provide useful data on the bot's habits, since it doesn't contain any links. OK here goes...
[Yup, the bot ignored it.]
It is my pleasure to request your assistance on this business proposal which if pursued to its conclusion, will be of immense benefit to both of us. This request may seem strange but I will crave your indulgence and pray that you view it seriously.
