Can this be fixed...I always need to login after taking some time to write a post, I lost some posts becouse the data expired after i loged in. Also after loging in the second time...The first time is before I post. The forum doesent return me to the thread but gets lost...

yep I have same problem. As I like to take time over my posts making sure information is correct it's happened a lot. In most cases I've just given up as I'm not feeling like typing it all again.

Im also interested in workarounds, dont want to make too much truble for our moderators here...

The one i use is: copy the whole post before clicking submit reply and repeat the whole process if the data expires, it not i can login and go back twice to return to the post, submit reply than works. It only sucks if i forget to copy...

looking at a thread on another forum running vbulletin v3, the loss of data or the logout is not to do with vbulletin timing you out, but "glitches server side or computer crashes". their suggestion is to always ctrl+C to copy a long post in case something has gone wrong. if the data is lost when you hit the back button you can ctrl+V and paste it back in.

this only ever happens to me on other peoles computers - on my own machine(s) which have the "keep me logged in" box ticked it never happens.
but yes it is a vbulletin bug/feature <insert moan about using non opensource software here>

If there is an opensource bulletin board that totally kicks ass and has all the right features, and an ability to import vbulletin historical data, Id be happy to switch. I was always a bit dissapointed by the quality of opensource boards when I looked in years past, but I am a bit ou of date these days, maybe there is one that is great? phpBB doesnt cut the mustard for me.

Anyway if the timeout thing is considered a feature but not a bug by the creators, then it wouldnt get fixed even if the software was opensource. And it is open in that we can change the sourcecode if we want. Maybe we can just make the timeout longer?

Is this definately te problem? See I never have this problem, so Im trying to udnerstand it. Is it only happening when people take quite a long time to post a message?
