did anybody ever projected installed on a truck ( with the screen on the truck ? ) do you think it's possible to do with a low budget or should i better forget it and do something else ? like the projector on the truck and the screen on a wall ?
what do you think about it ?
thanx for any advice

In Newcastle we are in the process of planning to project on a moving truck, at the moment it is just a question of traffic laws, we don't want any cars to drive into us, because they are watching the screen.

In Canada we are starting to see more huge vans drive around with big backlit signs, to the point that the entire vehicle is one big sign. I have seen a few of these vans with large plasma screens, and have once seen a large cube-van with the video projector near the driver, pointing backwards, towards the screen that was stretched to cover the opening of the entire back part of the vehicle, that had it's doors folded to the sides, fully open, thus allowing for a huge screen.

I wonder if you could have a huge metal frame with multiple video projectors criss-crossing (beam interference? or just good projector placement/mirror bouncing) ala the CAVE(tm), or: http://community.audiovisualizers.com/cgi/gallery.php?user=laura%2A-%2A&gid=8 etc, and plop this on the back of your vehicle, and drive around. Probably more fun to do video activism, and just project onto structures as you go along your way ;)

i think we did this in bosnia - with a small screen in the side door of a merc 608 driving round playing music and videos (i can't actually remeber if got round to doing the video bit - we were very drunk on that tour) - its certainly possable just get a little genorator and preferably a UPS too so you don't cut the power on the projector if the genny goes wrong

dunno about road trafic laws - there didn't seem to be too many of them in bosnia!

oh this has just reminded me of EBNs stupid satalite dish thingy they had on top of a truck - a huge rotating satalite dish (maybe 3 meters across) with the projector where the LNB should go projecting onto the dish

ok, thanx for your answers but i forgot to tell something : on the platform truck, there will be dancers too, so it will be a fight for the space, anyway i 'm still in search of my system and i will let you know about it
cheers

And what if you would use a videowall instead of projection ? I still have those old Barco-monitorwalls, would look great i think ...

And what if you would use a videowall instead of projection
would you put your videowall through that... really?

as for the space... dancers in the way, why not try to mount the projector on the cabin and have a backlit screen

well in fact i think to use a diy projector ( a lens with a monitor ),with a black room for retro projection, the screen on the cabin and the image box will be in front of the truck, like a licorn,so it will leave a lot of place to the dancers

Well, Kroko, yes i would... anything better than just projecting on a rectangular screen for the 12445654654542th time ;)
Just to give you an idea : last month i put three DLP 7000 ansi lumen projectors in wooden boxes outside to project in the snow, the rain and everything... (I'll post the pics one day ... promise)
It's just a question of preparing it enough. To do it with my toshiba cubes, that's another thing. They're to difficult to setup in those conditions. But my Barco wall : why not ? I mean : if the truck is big enough of course ...

Guess we''l just have to try it then, don't we ? ;)

Kroko, where do you live in Holland ?

yes but what's the price ? with my diy projector, i need 160 euros for the lens,150 for a 2d hand screen and maybe 100 euros for the screen and the black box, total : 410 euros nice price, isn't it ?

DOn't know if i'm diverging here but i'm shooting a short film this spring with a scene involving projection from a car.

I'm completely ignoring all traffic laws and plan to be projecting out the front and back of an dodge challanger doing 100mph down the an undisclosed motorway. The projection will be targets, digital imagery, graphs and flash backs of the drivers youth. This will be filmed from a chaser car.

I'm going to be using inverters and UPS back-ups for power.

[sleepytom; were you part of that touring soundsystem in Bosnia during the conflict?? If you were then serious respect. I've just been out there and i thought that took a deep breath, let alone during a civil war].

Mbazzy,

Thanks for that link; for your information, Mostar hasn't changed much. The new bridge is slow process and United Colours of Benatton have set up a swanky store - that looks about it really.

I think another tour maybe needed - the locals didn't seem too happy.
