Freedom of mixing together what you want to?

Define art....... what is it ;)

art is an interpritation by the psyche of the reality that we inhabit.

art is the capture and/or re-creation of life

as for vjing, i guess it depends on how strict you want the definition to be. meiherhans definition is quite broad (really more about multimedia than strictly vjing)...

i serpose what i'm interested is each inderviduals interpritation or defernition of v.j.

Light is electromagnetical radiation in a certain window of wavelength ;)
VJ`s generaly play around with light. (Or the absence of light)

For me VJing means also more the just set up colorfull pictures. There is also a social/media critism component in it.
(--> black humor is needed for this, don`t want to show hungry people of war on a party)

TV got some much power over the minds of people, why not use this strengh this time, to do something good?
Something that makes thinking instead of make dull?

If you don't actually believe this, try entering "tv alpha waves" into Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=tv+alpha+waves).

I think the topic subliminal messages was touched on a few times on the old board - what might the possibilities be for using this for good?

To try and create a 'dictionary definition' of VJ:

One who creates visual stimuli, often in conjunction with music.

here goes my definition...

"A vj is a video jockey much like disk jockey except with a visual medium rather then audio. A vj mixes video sources together to make visual compositions usually responding or moving with the audio within an audio performance environment. "

now a visual artist could be defined in many ways. Sometimes definitions can be blockages when it comes to art. Like when a electronic music producer is trying to hard to make drum and bass instead of just making good music.

We do art galleries and art installations and my vj definition above might not apply as much in those environments. I think there is a difference between visual art and vjing in that vjing is more dependant on an audio environment and mixing with the audio rather then just making something visual and projecting it.

I've seen projectors at parties playing some movie or something just as an extra visual and i would not define that as vjing. Just like you wouldnt call someone a dj if the popped in a cd hit play and walked off just letting the entire cd play. If you're not mixing and moving with music then it isn't vjing. You may not allways be in sync with the music for every visual, but at least be mixing or have the ability to sync with music when you want to.

Art = something that the artist himself defines as Art.

t.t sounds strange but it's like this.

VJ: video artist performing in a live context, whose working process is inspired by the DJ metaphor.

I have foudn that continually heckling at the people on the TV, and making energetic rude body gestures towards adverts on television re-envigorates the parts of the brain that normally shut down, thus I am immune from its zombie like effects.

Actually once upon a time I wanted to setup internet streaming video that was an alternative soundtrack to tv station, sort of auto-heckling for viewers that couldnt be bothered to do it themselves. eg tune in to BBC1 as we are now taking the piss out of this program etc.

Also always wanted to make a device that filters out TV adverts and replaces them with nice VJ clips or something. I assume it could possibly be achieved but the authorities would be none too happy :D

I think theres something wrong with my brain :D

Yeah! :) Actually it's the idea behind billboard jamming, because billboards have become the only medium on the street.
