I have an Egyptian theme event to set up for next week (that mean that all the loops I'm gonna mix will be on egypt/desert...).
I had a hard time to find footage whithout copyrights. Finaly the best solution I found was to call the Egyptian tourism office here in Switzerland and ask them for free video... and they sent me a tape with the right to use it for the event for 0$$
I thought I would share this as it could give ideas to some ppl who don't want to breake copyright laws but need some video.
Just ask and you may get it...

Just because its free surely doesnt mean it has no copyright?
Correct me if Im wrong, which I probably am.

You're right, it has copyright but the owner of the rights allowed me to use it. So it should be ok.

It's promotional. The tourism board wants as many random people to see their country as possible. A party sounds like a perfect promo event.

perhaps but then again they might actually be really into it ! - most of these promo / tourist info places would love to have products that are cool and appeal to the youth market (research into what young people are into in a foreign place is very expensive) just tell them it will be like having an ad on MTV but 4 meters wide in a club with a thousand people in and they should start offering to pay you for showing there video clips!

I've got some nice stuff,...
One of the guys i'm working with is really insane guy.
When he was 16 he went to China for maken an documentary for a museum (from his father, but big video houses gave there prices also and a independent organism decided,...)
But what i wanted to say, that guy had the opportunity to edit footage from a guy who went to Africa, and visited a few old tribes. That documentary was meant for the ethnological museum of Antwerp (my friends fathers museum). So by editing the stuff, he asked for the right of using it at parties,... and we might. So now when we want to laugh, at a very hard dancetrack, we let the tribesman dancing his raining dance. :d
but the tought for tourism offices, is great found.

i am thinking ,,,,,, yes !
i think this is a great tip too , i have some "curcite" parties to do in Whistler in 2 weeks and they have asked if i have any images that represent Canadian city scaps that i could mix in with footage of a Mountie doing a strip show that they will provide . it will be great fun to see if i can get tourisam Canada to cough over some Canadiana for that one . and no , city scaps in Canada arn't just igloo villages lite with seal oil lamps .

great Idea holly,
don't forget that if you want things from all over the world, you also can collaborate with the transglobal time collaboration project, but something where everybody is free to join and uploading footage from any daytime is also great, at least better then my 0300 local time shots,

...And polar bears to chase the mountie once he is almost nude, ha ha ha.
Maybe the tourist board would be a better source for the traditional "beauty" shots of landscapes shot by professionals, But for instance, I could still get some video of neon signs from the few porn palaces and stripper joints that are left in Times Square, etc. There is probably interesting counter-culture everywhere that the tourist board would not touch.... Hmmm.

hay holly ! Is that a serious offer on the Times Square porno palace strip joint stuff ? if it is , what could i offer for you in return . i was going to say we don't trade in beaver pelts either , but that could have come out all wrong so i won't . if it's an offer , i would love to have anything like that , as they're pretty naughty parties . that and it would be cool to see something you put together ! i hope i'm not over stepping my bounds , it just sounded like an opportunity i can't let pass me by . if not , no worries , your tips are a great help as always by themselfs . :D

Yeah, I was going to shoot neon smut signs anyway. Sharing them is just an excuse to go do it sooner. I was actually thinking just an exchange of raw footage.... What else are you using for the circuit parties. Got anything in the same vein?

Yeah I did a bunch opf great neon smut content back ages ago for a gig with the scratch perverts, came out VERY well :)
