AVIT→C23 - pixels want to be trusted!

After a successful interconnection of the VJ scene with the annual hacker conference Chaos Communication Congress in the last years, the international visualist gathering will take place in Berlin again at this years 23c3 event in late december.

The last AViT meetings in collaboration with the CCC have been proven to be a great source of inspiration to both sides with the OpenAirVIT in 2003 at the Chaos Communication Camp near Berlin, the AVIT^c3 in 2004 and the cooperation of the new born local video artists association VC Visual Berlin e.V. last year.

Staged at the center point of the Art & Beauty exhibits hall and with access to the conference and workshop rooms AVIT will be producing a programme drawn from the vj community?s input - such as showcases, vj to vj talks, technique and technology sessions, experimental labs and open screen collaborative VJ jam sessions.

This year?s AVIT→C23 will be hosted and coordinated by VC VisualBerlin in cooperation with the AVITUK crew and the Chaos Computer Club.

VC VisualBerlin e.V. is a community of video artists and VJs from Berlin, who get involved with cooperative projects and mutual exchange of knowledge and experience with the regional and international visualist scene and who deal with the technological and cultural aspects of their art.

Call for Participation

AVIT→C23 will be a VJ community driven event made by and for the international audiovisualist scene. It will be defined by what the visual artists have to offer each other. If you think you want to hold a talk, have a special offer for workshops, be part of a discussion round or just want to showcase your art or take part in a visual jam session - we need your vision for involvement in electronic written form or regular mail by 1st of November 2006. We are open for all possibilities and ideas.

The speeches are bound to a maximum of one hour and are to be held in english. The workshops can be as long as two hours. The length of the showcases will depend on numerous factors. There are the ?normal? showcases if you just want to show your current work to an interested audience. This will happen in the Art and Beauty Area and the C-Base close to the Conference venue. Since the 23C3 is supposed to be really stuffed with hacking related lectures and workshop, it is not quite clear yet how much time and space there will be available for our AVIT→C23 event. But please tell us if you want to be part of this event, so we know how much spacetime to capture in order to organize and plan AVIT→C23 to make it a great happening...

If you just want to come along to learn or jam together with other attending visual artists, or if you want to help us, please drop us a line of your intention and personal interests so we can measure demand better and adjust the offers and timings.

All inquiries and proposals are to be sent by email to avitc23@visualberlin.org or by regular snailmail to

REMINDER

The deadline for submissions ist November the 1st !!!!!

----- what has happened so far...

first, thanks to everybody who already sent their participation requests.
we already have lectures, workshops and showcase submissions from various very interesting VJs from Austria, Brazil, Czeck Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, the UK... and hopefully much more to come...
if we only get a part of it running, everybody will have couple of intresting and inspiring days in berlin.

As most of you might know, AViT is a community driven network. this means, we are doing this on the first hand to educate and exchange knowledge with each other. the 23C3 people are following the same concept. our wish for the conference is to be as open and transparent as possible. every tiny bit of budget we have at the moment is the result of individuals giving as much as they can, in form of man-power, technology and money. we are still trying to get as much sponsoring as possible, but a the moment there is not much to promise (yet). We have a policy at the moment that we can't pay anybody for showcases or workshops.

if this creates a problem for you, meaning that you will not be able to come, we can already promise to support your efforts to get your travel and accomodation financed. about how this support will eventually look like, we will have to disscuss individually. if you need invitations from us in order to come here, please let us know.

---- where will AViT->C23 take place

the biggest difference to the AViT two years ago is that we decided to have a second location outside the 23C3-conference building (bcc). the main spot will be the 'arts and beauty' area in the heart of bcc, a very nice conference center at the alexanderplatz downtown berlin (http://www.bcc-berlin.de/).

the 'arts and beauty' area is the lounge and art-project room of the 23C3. do a google image search for avit^c3 and you will get an impression what to expect there. this space will be the main spot for showcases of all kind during the evening and night hours of the conference. during the day we have the possibility to do spontaneous mixing-action and dvd or whatever presentations. so anybody who will not be able to come can send us stuff to show there.

just above 'arts and beauty' is the big conference hall. for one night we will kick the 23c3 lectors and disscussion-rounds out of there, take over the place, and do a big audiovisual special showcase there! for sure the most advanced an promising acts will be chosen for this by us. a part of our lecture and workshop programme will also happen at the bcc.

for our second location we are in contact with visomat.inc. they own an art gallery called 'm12' on the opposite side of the alexanderplatz. this place will be the other spot for our conference programme besides the bcc. we will have enough time and space to do extended workshops, more specialized lectures and individual talks, and hangouts. for the evenings we are also planning a lounge and showcase programme to give a more audiovisually intrested crowd the possibility to enjoy high-quality art.

as you can see, we have much more space to offer for everyone to showcase.

traditionally, the last night will be a cooperative showcase in a more classical club context. c-base is hosting the 23C3 aftershow party and AViT->C23 will take care about the visual output there.

there is nothing fixed for now, but a few of the bigger clubs in berlin asked for vj-action during the time of the conference, so maybe there will be even more possibilities.

finally, we launched a weblog to function as the AViT->C23 website and news ticker, to get the information flow a bit more bundled. we are planning to feature participants there, so tell us whether you will be inside our boat or prefer to stay covered. use the comment function to give feedback to our plannings.
