sorry if this isn't quite the right thread -
so im interested in mixing visuals, want to have a go with the new (pioneer?) dvj decks, but more importantly want to make my own creative sources compatable with a 'mixing' - so whats is the most important thing to remember?
is it?
getting the content packaged on the dvds as individuals tracks, having them frame rated to go with the audio (the audio on the same dvd that is), or trying to use some other data packaging?
guess I'm asking what the makers of the dvj asked themselves, but what I read from the pormo script it seems like it is still a very audio oriented thing, cos from the dvd's I.ve seen it would all be a bit 'stop-start' - but i guess that would be the skill of mixing:confused:
those dvj's do look like a lot of fun though.:)

Rossco, I've moved your post to its own thread under the A/V FORUM, I think it will receive better attention here since you are concerned with the audio synchronized with the video(?).
I VJ with dvd, but not A/V dvds. For me it is best to author my dvds with only a few chapters (maybe only 3 variations of the same graphics), and the disc authored to repeat infinitely. I find it is generally faster to remove a disc and put in a new one than to hit the NEXT>> button 150x and wait for the laser to catch up, and it keeps my visuals on separate sources so I can mix them with the mixer....
I suggest you find a local dealer who will let you play with the DVJs using your own authored discs. You will see how these players will influence the way you build and arrange your content. They were designed to play, scratch, and beatsync music videos, so there are some practical issues when you want to find very short loops, or have too many chapters on your discs.

I think Holly's answered your main question there rossco. You say your interested in mixing visuals. Are you or have you DJ'd? If it's only visuals you want to mix then there are better options. If it's AV then in my opinion there's nothing better....just a little bias:)
One of the most important factors when you decide on the DVJ's is how are you going to make and record your content. And yes this is best done as one tune one disc, you then mix and play the DVJ decks as a DJ but you will be an AV act.
As Holly suggests shop around and see if you can find a dealer who will let you try them....this may be difficult as not many dealers carry demo stock. If your close to London they should be in use at the Plasa show, Earls Court 10th-13th Sept on the MixMash stand, where if your lucky you may get to try them out with the commercial MixMash discs.
Oh, if you are in London I think Deepvisuals might let you try before you buy....you'll find Garry from Deepvisuals on the forum.
