vjs across the world...
please send me details of your gigs and news for inclusion in the VJscan section of DJMag...
this is an on going situation, and so all info is useful, although next issue covers the 21st august onwards, so nothing before that please.

good hi-res jpgs are also welcome, which will make your gig look even more interesting. DJMag prefers events to be listed that have a really high inclusion of VJs, so apologies in advance if you don't get listed if there is only one VJ for a night.

send to me funkcutter - at - yahoo.co.uk

regards,

Emma Blackwood

Hello,

I've always wanted to mention this, hope you read this reply.

Over here, bookings are made waaaaay too close to the gig. We never get booked in advance enough to send you some promo. The people that work best, are only two club nights whose promoters book you 2 months in advance

For example, the further ahead date I have, is August 20, and this is quite an exception (would love to send info for it anyway).

Do you tihnk something can be changed regarding this?

Cheers!

yeah the furthest gig i have away is August 4th (Also my Birthday), I get told 2 weeks before for the Gigs I am at, but then again, I am the only VJ anyway so it doesnt really matter i guess.

Can i point out that Emma asked for you to EMAIL her details of the gigs - if you want them to be listed you should include more details than the date and venue and that prefernce will be given to VJ events (ie events with multiple VJs performing or some super special reason why VJing is extra important to the event.) Also DJ mag is a UK publication so I'd expect their to be a bias toward UK events.

send your emails to funkcutter[AT]yahoo[dot]co[dot]uk

I've email'd Emma and discussed my following point with her predessor. I think it would be good for DJ mag to have a small 2-3 page supplement within the VJ Scan Section. This listing all gigs where VJ's are performing should they wish to have these listed. I for one if free on a Fri/Sat would go to other venues to watch meet and possibly learn from other VJ's. Unless you are involved in a specialist VJ/AV event then the chances of your listing appearing are very slim.

Also Tom occassionally there happens to be more events listed that are actually abroad than here in the UK, even when I have submitted my listings as I've said to Emma her lack of submissions recieved is not surprising. I find it rather frustrating at times to be performing alongside major club DJ's and live dance acts making rare appearances in the UK not to be listed when there are at times VJ events abroad listed that the majority of the UK public will not have heard of and have no interest in.

I feel DJ Mag could support the scene and the lower level VJ far more. Having said this atleast the Mag is mainstream and does contain a certain amount of info on the scene.

How about a section here where atleast all VJ's should they wish could enter the briefest of gig details ie
Name of Event:
Venue:
Date of Event:
VJ Name:
Other Artists/DJ's/Acts Performing:
Brief detail of locations, costs, standard of dress for the venue.

Isn't that what the vjcentral calendar is for?

But its a VJ section - it s for listing VJ events so events which are actually about / in the interests of VJs are more relevant to the readers of VJscan than whatever gig you happen to be doing (promoting yourself based upon the musicians that happen to be on the same bill as you is rather lame - your not actually working with these people, merely performing at the same time as them)

perhaps you could organise some events that promote VJing yourself? i'm sure these would be listed if they were genuinely supporting the VJ scene.

every event i've ever sent to VJscan has been listed - but i don't bother to send in my personal gigs as i know that i'm not on my own a big enough name to be of any relevance.

expect less and create more and you'll have a much nicer time of it in the world of VJing

@sjg707
I can imagine you feeling like that considering its a UK mag after all, then again, it is published worldwide and AFAIK the only non-local dance related mag worldwide that offers ANY kind of regular VJ exposure. So the people behind that have to balance quite a bit. Last time I read the mag (erm prolly last century as well..) they had club listings from Berlin to Buenos Aires ..

My point is that I for one would like to go and watch other VJ's work but as single VJ's performances are not listed. Their appearances are rarely featured on flyers, and you only see these should you be in the same city or if your lucky enough to catch them on the web then we actually do not know where VJ's are performing. I also believe if VJ's were having gigs listed like this it may tempt promoters to actually give more consideration towards VJ's any additional publicity would help the scene surely.
