we've been talking about trying to do some stopmotion footage recreating eschers perspective drawing. This was inspired by an article that mention some people doing 'sculptures' of his stuff in lego (i'll try to find it)
I would also love to make some mixes between clips along the lines of his metamorphosis drawings, but alas my skills are not (yet) sufficient.
I suspect that skilled 3d animators might find it simpler to do versions of the mobius strip and other perspective ones, but escher is a hard act to follow.

whoa....escher lego....mad.....how cool is that!!
anyroad up...im looking for examples of his mathematical formulations (ie. one tile of a lizard that increases in size yet still marvelously fits into the general sphere of teh pattern etc etc)
dunno how to do this at the mo....maybe scan in base images for vj manipulation, or video a piece of artwork out of a book.
not too skilled at 3d studio to take it further ......
ill report back when i get going
any other ideas welcome
cheers

greetings - I'm new here so don't smack me for talking out of turn or way late in a topic... BUT...
Although not Escher patterns, I have succeded a number of times in creating some very sharp black and white video feedback patterns that look VERY similar to some of his interlocking black & white creations. If I tweak everything just right, I can get them to almost stand still with just small artifacts swirling in towards the vanishing point in the center.
It is not something I have done for at least 2 years now, and it takes me a while to get back to that point of discovery in the feedback process, but when I do it is quite astonishing and never ceases to amaze me.

I made a short clip of those lizards going around the page by cutting out each lizard and putting them together in one of the first computer video editor I worked with..
