Hi every one
Well after a 1st disappointing gig that was cancelled (im sure some of you can remember my post :gag:) I took on board some of your advise and started back on the hunt for work.
After a successful night at my local Student Union I was asked if I would like to do the "Summer Ball". I was surprised to see some names I recognised on the guest list including Trevor Nelson, Chappers & Dave from radio 1
Iv traced down Projectors and completed a test setup today, we've got a Projector throwing an image 20 meters giving a image size of roughly 14m x14m across the back wall directly behind the DJ's. (LOOKS AWSOME).
This is the fl-yer for the event, if you look really closely you can see my name on there somewhere :D haha.

yes, unfortunatly ,
I think the reason they used that term was to try and help people understand what i do, the term VJ is not well know in these parts to the average party student!

Congrats on getting such a good gig to put on your cv.
Great tip from PEsh.
If youre stood next to or near the lighting guy then have a chat with him before hand to try and see what he has in mind for the night in the way of lighting and smoke.
If he plans on putting smoke into the room all night just inform him that people wont be able to see the visuals and that you are both there to do a job. Not just the lighting guy.
He will maybe work with you then on geting a good ambience in the room.
Hey if youre getting paid why shouldnt people be able to see the projections?
Cheers

Hi
I am not sure of the exact spec of the beamer. I am borrowing it from the Digital Arts Centre at the university (NO COST :D), It turns out they have a slightly higher spec projector from those used in the classrooms locked away in a cupboard for use at drama productions and other public events.
I think its was 3000 lumen's but that would be a total guess, most of the class room projectors are 1500 or 2000 and i know this one was higher than both those.
We played around with projecting onto black and white and found no real difference, for this reason I think I'm going to use black as it wont reflect unwanted light from other sources like a white canvas would. What do you guys think? I honestly could see very little difference but are there any issues you think i may come across projecting onto black?

use white.
3000Lumens is high power razzle dazzle.
burn thems eyes out/but balance light with dark/nice, but dim

yeah mate, definatley white, ive got a 3500 DLP, tried it on black, and its just not effective, if you get your hands on some black velvet type material and make a border to surround a white screen (about 12") even if you have a black backdrop behind the white screen.
This helps absorb unwanted light cast from the beamer and defines the picture noticably. trust me it works!
Try haggling with the arts dept, im sure theyve got something you can use.
good luck

White reflects the whole lightspectrum while black doesn't. (don't forget to post pictures ;))
