Hi everyone,
This is Radley Marx from Electronica-Optica. I wanted to drop a quick note about a project we've been working on for several months.
I've worked out a deal with a third party company that will allow visual artists and producers to post and sell visual clips and loops to interested VJs. (The useage rights will be the same as DJs have with records.)
Electronica-Optica is the Community Manager for this project. We'll be operating through their browser system, which allows producers to upload content, determine a set price, and collect royalties on a quarterly basis. VJs can browse through your clips and others, select any they like, pay for them, and download them.
It is my expectation that these kinds of clips will sell for $1-2 each. My inital expectations are that they'll be 320x240, 5-60 seconds long, looped (optional), and available in a variety of video formats.
The back-end system manages directory, storage, bandwidth, and financial transactions. It also offers promotions, features, advertising, community chat, and other bits.
While on-line payments are common, this system is unique because it can manage payments as low as $0.25. Most credit card companies want a minimum of $2.50 per transaction. The funds are split 50/50 between the artists and the hosts. (Not bad considering that a 100MB file may cost $0.10-0.20 to transfer up and down.)
After we have enough content, the system will be opened to the general public - probably in the late spring.
Are there any artists or VJs here who would be interested in beta-testing? It's mostly process testing. I have about a dozen artists who will be contributing content for the beta-tests. Curious if there's more.
Beta-testing involves posting and selling content and letting me know if there's a problem. We'll be exploring the headaches and highlights of this system, deterimining best video options (half vs. full-screen, 15/24/30 FPS, QT, Divx, Flash). We'll also be exploring other possible market options for non-clip items such as filters, plug-ins, code, refills, etc.
Feel free to contact me (info@electronica-optica.com) if you have any questions.
Feedback would also be greatly appreciated!
That's it. Don't forget to watch VJTV and come out to the Electronica-Optica 2 Year Party in March if you're in the Bay Area.
Cheers =)
