If not, my best free recommendation is Blender http://www.blender.org complex but VERY powerful (as soon to take over now that its open-source IMHO) :)

Which has what I assume is a fairly comprehensive list of 3d softs.

I would suggest running around their sites and trying all those with free trials before doing anything else, unless (as we all hope) the free softs can do the job ;)
