A timescale for 3d display technology?

Many of us probably fantasise about being able to project stuff in true 3D, if you know what I mean.

So I was wondering, how long we will have to wait before this becomes real?

I guess there must be research into this stuff at the moment, any idea how far they have got? Come to think of it, I wonder how powerful a pc you would need to drive such stuff?

Personally I don't know if 3d displays are coming within any close period of time... mainly because to do such a display you would need to have to do a lot of things that push the boundaries of physics today. The Rolling Stones have literally poured millions upon millions into R&D for this, to little avail.
