View Full Version : is porn copyright free ?
Anyone

Just had a though,
it might be a bit of a stupid question but...
if I download a porn movie from, let's say, blowjob.com,
and I use it in a recognizable way in my next DVD or live performance,
other than the fact that some people might be offended by this,
am i breaking any copyright law?
Is porn subject to the same copyrights as other video footage?

There should be no reason that porn is different to any other type of film. Im sure they are copyrighted, and it will probably mentioned on the website.
The chances of a pornstar being in your club/install and recognising his own manjuice stain is doubtful.

Lol guys,
my point is, porn is already "barely legal"
so could it still be taking people to court?
BTW Holly,
if i made my own blue mov,
I would need a partner...

Porn is not barely legal.
There may be vice laws about it in UK but in most places its a normal business just like any other. You may be able to find some 'amateur' material but this is most likely also copyrighted.
If porn is some kind of illegal in UK then you would be committing 2 crimes , not 0 (stealing content and showing illegal content)

All joking aside (and trying to keep at least one foot off the soapbox) I'm always a little surprised by artists' who think that porn is a free-for-all. It's as if there's the assumption that porn is not a commercial product (it's the MOST commercial product there is!), or that porn actors wouldn't care about how they are portrayed or where their performances are seen ? I think it would be the opposite entirely, but maybe it's different for guys.... If we see pornstars as victims of exploitation from sleazoid profiteers, is it then ok for everyone (artists) to exploit them further? (If a woman gets raped once is it ok for everyone to rape her?) Certainly the nudity doesn't make it public domain, so how is it any different than ripping off any other low-budget film?
Now if you're not trying to be a sleazoid-flesh peddler yourself, but want to take the viewers on a walk on the wildside, I'd think that porn is probably pretty lousy source material (over-lit, unerotic, all-show and no tease). NE1, Baby, next time your in town come on along a my house come on and I'll show ya how it's done.;)
BTY, silver/chrome chains are a bitch to bluescreen! Ugh, invest in black/iron chains. They're the only things that alpha properly.

i also think there are some laws preventing the public display of pornography in a public place, in which case a club is concidered a public place. This is the reasons the magazine that projected a nude gale porter onto the house of commons got into trouble rather than the deformation of parlimentry property.

Yes, here in the states there are specific laws about nudity and the serving of alcohol. The key is to tease, tease, tease. Always make it "about to happen" but never quite getting there. Breasts seem to be ok, probly butts as well, but just keep them as quick flashes or tantilizingly just off screen. Any genitalia would be pushing it, and penitration of anyone anywhere with anything is probly grounds to get the bar's liquor license revoked. I've seen graphic 70s porn in a bar before (in San Francisco), but it actually caused a negative feeling in the crowd. People like to feel curious and tittlated, not embarrassed or self-conscious. Softcore anime and general nudist colony type stuff is probly not going to get anyone in trouble, but I wouldn't try it in BibleBelt, USA.
A lot of women and some men get really upset by any kind of erotic image of female objectification, but I've never met the man or woman who had a problem with male objectification. There's always the perception that women are victims of porn (whatever) and men aren't. For some reason if you don't show their heads everyone seems to be sexier.
There are also extreme laws about bondage and ANY sexual activity, even if the sexual activity is merely implied. Rule of thumb: if there's bondage keep the clothes on.

Pure (http://www.kriel.tv/pure.html)
All of this was shot in studio as porn, and then manipulated into something more suggestive and less explicit.

yeah i agree with holly on the uselessness of most porn we had a promoter (female) who specifically asked us to use explicit stuff we tried lots of different porn stuff and came to the conclusion that the "softer" the porn was the better it worked as visuals, the only usable stuff i got from the hardcore was a fantastic montage of close ups of girls faces at the point of orgasm, there is absolutely nothing "obscene" on that tape, but its at the same time absolutely the filthiest tape i got :)
