I've seen a few posts lately with people saying usually play say Trance sets, but have a house set to do, anyone got any footage.

Just wondered who here creates video to suit a music style and who just creates footage they like and just play it out differently when playing to different music styles?

For me I just have a massive video library, and although I can see certain clips do suit specific sounds I still view my library as genre independent, For different music styles my speed and mixing style is what changes. The same library has done DnB , Trance, Psy Trance, House, Hard House, etc etc etc, I don't play the same clips every set I have enough to not repeat but I don't organise by style.

Just wondered who works in what way?

I suppose if I think of it that way then yes :) My LIB is versatile :)

Please excuse spelling, it's late and I'm tired ;)

these are all fairly simular genres of music though. i mean theyre not, but theyre all fast hard hitting electronic beats..

i would razz the same clips for these genres, or more-so simular genres that I VJ to - electro/breaks/a bit of D&B an trance.... but if i was gonna be Vjing for something like dub,, or chilled music then i would use very different clips

this being said, i can recall thinking of some slow clips whilst VJing to electro, and playing them fassssst,,or doing something different than origionally planned with them....

...one thing i have definatly found is that the genre of music im listeing to allmost defines the clips i make,subconciously... i had captured a load of really melow skies and birds and stuff, then made some clips whilst listening to venetian snares,,,,and came out with video,,,,,something...it was good though - the juxtaposition between content and creation styles,,,without meaning to sound pretentious.....

Here we go to start a talking point.

I will probably play the same or similiar stuff for all sets with most types of music. But mine is generic stuff and was always designed that way sure some goes with some more than others but when it is synched to sound it matter less.

Let the fireworks begin....

Sounds like you play a simular style nocteral, I don't just play dance beats with my library, I've done tons of dub nights, electronica, live bands, reggae and chillout too, they where just the few genres I picked as I've seen lots of DnB Vj's asking for house clips.

A good variety I think is the key. Never been one to adopt 1 style and stick to it, I just get bored watching clip after clip that looks exactly the same.

"just creates footage they like and just play it out differently when playing to different music styles?"

guilty

though I do find that my compositions seem to 'vibe' with some styles better than others. I'm not doing this for a living though so I turn down musical styles that don't do it for me and don't do it for my media.

I try to match the music... d&b with urban footage, electro with 80's stuff, techno with CG clips, trance with fractals and so on... it's a shitload of work but that's the way I like it.

:yep:
