What about letting parameters for filters come via a camera aimed at the crowd, in effect letting the movement and such of the public have an effect on the feed.

check out 'image explorer' of the nash arts package of visual-jockey. ...it allows you to do exactly what you're asking for.

This field has been explored a bit b4 mianly with maX and the big eye system.
Personally I see myself as the conduit for the energy/vibe.music into the video so it wouldn't really be my thing, but with a good responsive crowd it has potential... or @ least as much as any live cam :)

free and on pc: eyesweb.
but i'm not really sure, that this movement 2
controller mapping technique will
show good results in a overcrowded clubcontext
where normally not alot movement happens.
seems like a fulltime camera job to get useful input
for visual controllers.

i know of people that have used floor sensors to trigger video with the sensors placed on the dance floor - trouble is that hardly anybody in the audiance noticed that they had direct control of the video
really i think that this kind of control interface has more applications in art galleries and similar non-club environments as clubbers are genrally too mashed up to notice that they are controling anything and thus they never really get it - gallerys though have the space and time for intrested people to explore these kind of controls and get trully interactive with them.
