exhale said that here's not enough threads :) so here's one for PD...
i'm still working on that 1file pack of pd&co, so stay tuned...
what i still have 2 do:
- installer(s) (actually it's ready)
- GUI for the commandline options
- fonts
there's VERY much happening in the PD "scene", even the OSX version is working (but no midi yet). got also a full customizable GUI (extern: xgui) that can do also 2d visuals...
well, for now you could use this thread to ask any questions regarding PD. i would be happy to help if i can

word, the realm of pd holds many possibiliites..and the fact that its cross platform sure beats nato, as the only mac i can afford is a lowly slo imac. looking forward to checking your gui out if you make it avaliable.
im still getting my neck wet on this pd stuff, but from what ive seen already im willing to let nato hang for awhile and take advantage of my pc muscle. so far ive put together some really intense sequences of glitch'd out noisy stuff that works great as components in afterfx compositions.. there is a lot of depth here..
the setup im using now consists of two laptops, one running sample-based looped content (a la composite station) and another accepting audio/or midi data thru pd, then mixing both outputs via a pana. it allows me to inject somewhat of a 'synched' music response to regular samples+make things really noisy and fucked up.
..anyway, just wanted to share my pd tale. looking forward to hear what others are doing with it. like i said, im a novice with pd/gem, but im getting closer to making it a useful tool for me.
best,
ric

the xgui i mentioned is NOT from me, you can find it here http://dh7.free.fr (don't panic about the tar format, workx in win32 too)
you should check the links in my pd article for more externs !!!
well, pd&gem does NOT beat max&nato, not the same thing. gem is specializied in 3d and nato in 2d... (could be that framestein beats nato)
btw. max should come for win32 on end of year...
ps. has some1 compiled FNT files to FON file ?
(i found "tuts" to make it with c++, but they wont work)
(gonna test pascal when i get it)

well I'm overwhelmed by all the options and I think I could get them all working together anyway but I REALLY wanna use it.....
Maybe you could slap together a version Huo with PD, GEM, XGUI and Framestien (and I belive you need something called Zexy to make that work) and some basic tutorials for each??? All in one download pre-set would be wikkid and get me well started....
BTW please make it win9x compat.

thats exactly what i'm doing morph :) except i make for each it's own installer... (you dont wanna download over 30mb when i just update something small)
yep, i'm doing ONLY win32 versions at the moment...
yep, ZEXY is a "standard" that every PD user should have... (and its needed for framestein&xgui)

btw. 4 all developers. the GUI of pd uses tcl/tk.
quote from their site "Tcl (Tool Command Language) is easy to learn and you can create a useful program in minutes! You are free to use it however you wish, even in commercial applications."
more info http://www.tcl.tk/scripting/primer.html
here's some tuts
http://mini.net/tcl/1304.html
a nice GUI design prog
http://spectcl.sourceforge.net/
and a BDF bitmap font editor

and ofcourse this

Huo just revisiting the old rs232/GPI controller threads for MX1/MX50/CVI etc...... can we get all we need to make this happen into the package too??? then we can build modules to control them all...... wow and if I can get Awax to do this commandpost2midi convertor (PD has midi in right???) then I can use midikeyboard/phatboy/commandpost to control all the video hardware and video streams.... YES!!!!!!

ok,
again 4 c++ wizards (if any here)
http://iem.kug.ac.at/pdwiki/index.php?ComPort
(if heres no c++ coders, i'm gonna giveit a try)
btw. that PDlauncher is getting forward very well...
(but time is not my friend @ the moment)
so, there's nothing impossible for the "1pack easy" version of PD...
upcoming features:
- 1 file installer (also for externals)
- GUI 2 launch pd (with saveable settings)
- better font (bitmap font)
- preset patches 4 making visuals & analysing sound

I have a whole bunch of non-vjing related things on my plate @ the mo but next time I get some spare time I'll pick up a copy of c++ in 21days :)

Since this is a PD thread, I thought I'd report that I've just managed to get Huo's example working, though for some reason, (probably driver/codec issues?) it was very picky about what avi's it would play. Thanks for all the help Huo, I _think_ I tracked down the original crash to a particular error not being checked for in the GEM movie loading code, though I don't know the codebase well enough to be sure.
I guess since I'm more into live stuff than 3d, I should check out framestein now?

__ I'm very interested in explore PD or Max as programming environments. On a pc at the moment [if apple ever releases a high res laptop that will probably change] so PD is the way, but it sure looks like it takes way to much time and committment. An easy installer would be the first step to converting me...

well,
- PD is cheaper :) than MAX
- PD is simpler to use than MAX (i've heard)
(- PD will be easier 2 install, when i get that launcher ready)
i thought apple titanium book is a "high res laptop" atleast "high price laptop" :)
for me is the price BIG enough reason why i use PD...
but which ever u use, you NEED a lot of time...

just wanted to notify that we installed pd very easily on ibook/osx10.2... using this installer:
http://www.pure-data.org/Members/hans
and after the install all seemed to work well, audio I/O ok (seems that GEM is also included, but i didn't got the time to test)
may be that you have to rename the downloaded file to <something>.dmg
(IE on my friends osx cutted the filename after 32chars  )
cheers
