What do people think of Dell laptops for VJing? I'm thinking of getting the Inspiron 8200 with P4 and Geforce 4 with 512 RAM.

anyone used one/recommend other models?

Yep I have a dell inspiron 8100, awesome quality, reasonable price, great stuff! :) The geforce2go isn't too great but the graphic cards on the 8200 are better (the ATI radeon or the new geforce)

the geforce4 chipset is the best out right now for VJing (on a lappy).

Go for it, you're worth it :)

I buy a piece of equipment, and then do my best not to look at prices until I'm ready to buy a new one. This has kept me from much pain and devaluation frustration.

Anybody looked at the Alienwares laptops... they're expensive as PCs go.. but sheesh.

The laptop should do a little popup dance number for you if you go to the main site.

__ damn that's a pretty burly system. no mention of the size or weight though. Couldn't find anything about the screen either. What's with everyone running towards the heaviest laptops out there too? Yeah they have major power, but who wants to carry a cinder block around? The Inspiron 8200 is even bigger then my 5000e which is far to big already. I'm waiting for the 4100 to get the P4 processors before I upgrade. Can't wait to get my hands on a 1600x1200 14inch screen. Must be 150ppi which is getting pretty damn close to the resolution of paper...

We use a Dell Latitude p450 mxh 128 mb ram for video loops triggering. works great! Dell makes good laptops.

ME.....!!

I want to carry a cinder block around - if it means i will get power and performance that matches my desktop box (and of course, only if that cinder box happens to be a laptop).

i NEVER leave my house without my laptop, i have it on me 100% of the time, and i have never had a problem with the weight. (and i am not a big guy - rather weedy in fact)

however, i do have a backpack for my pad, which makes things a lot easier, and admittedly, im not using my skateboard for transport as much anymore!

B.T.W. F.Y.I. 15" UXGA screen.

which was the only one i could get with the Radeon card and ended up costing me a little more - i dont really see any difference though, except that it goes to 1600x1200.
