I know, how fuckin stupid, to post a preview of a reel....I figured what the hell because my janky tripod site won't let me host anything bigger than this anyway...I'm doing the whole thing in cinema 4d and after effects, so the concept is that the car will transform into a robot, the mask will pop out as the head, then the remote will kung fu fight the transformer car, after which panels on the arms/body will slide open to reveal the VJ gear built in (V4, projectors, monitors etc)....then there will be a big dance party on the sofa with other toys, after which VJ Sketchy J will be fired and sent to the crusher for recycling...I don't expect to be done with this for a while....i'm rendering everything out in HD res for dvd distribution and so far just what I have has hogged up half the G5s in the class to render...today was the last day of school for this semester so i won't have access to my render farm until the end of January ugh...i guess ill just work on modeling and programming til then....i want it to be at least 3 minutes and i'm going to attempt to create an original techno track using rebirth and reason 3. I've discovered that my little oxygen 8 can do many wonderful things besides arkaos.

Well, I'll start with the obvious: Is this meant to be a VJ reel? or a motion graphics reel?

con?cept
n. A general idea derived or inferred from specific instances o

A concept is an abstract, universal idea, notion, or entity that serves to designate a category or class of entities, events, or relations. Concepts are abstract in that they omit the differences of the things in their extension, treating them as if they were identical. They are universal in that they apply equally to every thing in their extension. Concepts are also the basic elements of propositions, much the same way a word is the basic semantic element of a sentence.
Concepts are bearers of meaning, as opposed to agents of meaning.

right akira and everything these days is literate, and oxford english

i've rarly heard concpet used in the definition that you have quoted, can you show me a use of concept that falls exactly in line with the quote?

the most frequent use of the word concept amongst joe blogs that i hear is "concept car" and well that certianly does'nt work, but you hear it on tv so they gotta be right, right??

:help:

Is this meant to be a VJ reel? or a motion graphics reel

and without wanting to state the obvious, can it be either? im mean its not live, and its not really considered motion graphics. maybe you ment a 3d reel, or just a plain peice of 3d work, doest it even have to be catagorised into some familiar and narrow spectrum? can't it just be heres a peice of video i made, or hey guys were a buch of video "artists" have a look at what im making.

no wonder we see so little art being showcased here!!!

humm, im in a bad mood, maybe i should have refrained from posting, oh well who gives a shit right, why not lets all be assholes!!!

ignore them ollie, just the usual crap from the usual crowd of people who would rather nitpick than appreciate. Everyone knows what a reel is, people are just trying to stir something up. No matter what you try and share with your fellow VJs, there will always be that segment of people who feel threatened and try to draw the focus away from the art (i.e. pic size complaints, etc. etc.). I've given up on long, protracted flame wars which eat up my time and decided to concentrate on content creation. The way to do that is to try and check in to this site like once or twice a day, say what u gotta say and get over it.

good for you, wish my friends would quit. cigarette smoke annoys the hell out of me. (hmm a respirator in the mask would be nice for gigging....)

Well, it is a proof-of-concept, ie. noodling around with an idea to see how it works, and whether it will end up as a VJ reel, a motion graphics reel, or a fnord.

I like the idea of referencing VJ tools in thd reel - kind of like all the videos you see with animated turntables, soundsystems, etc.

There's probably an opportunity to have fun with a lot of the VJ stereotypes (such as they are) - at some point you could flash up footage from Koyasnisqatsi, Prelinger, stuff that comes with Archaos, Winamp, etc. <- in an ironic way.

Actually - a parody of Koyaanisqatsi could be fun.

Ollie and Sketchy J, You have got me all wrong. Not everyone on this forum is a SketchyJ hater... I think the behaviour of late has been pretty immature.

I'm not being nitpicky, I was just curious who he was targeting the reel towards. This matters because if you intend to use it to promote your VJ services I would imagine a potential employer would be wondering if this is representative of the kind of performance you do live?

It's a valid question, I don't see that I'm being nitpicky at all. I'm trying to be constructive.

instead of the quote button;)

So VU, you don't feel like you are being a bit combative?

I mean isn't it a bit immature to call someone immature?

Sketchy seems to be getting alot of the piss fromcertain peeps around here lately, and I don't see why?
Wether you agree or disagree with Sketchy on his tact lately, he has every right here to promote himself just as you do.

If you feel that he's not representing what a VJ does or that the demo reel isn't what you think VJing should be, just say so.
Your imagining what a propective employer might want, has nothing to do with it. Seems to me, that is left up to Sketchy and Sketchy only.

I reference immaturity not of sketchyJ but of the abuse he has been subjectedt too. So you are wrongly accusing me. I also agree he has been getting a lot of piss around here recently for no reason. We are in agreement there.

"Your imagining what a propective employer might want, has nothing to do with it."

IMO it has everything to do with it, as from my understanding a 'reel' is basically a pitch to potential employers. My question is not directed to you, let SketchyJ answer for himself.

"If you feel that he's not representing what a VJ does or that the demo reel isn't what you think VJing should be, just say so."

Did I ever say that? NO...

A simple answer from sketchyJ is all I was looking for. It seems ot me that some of the ppl on this forum need to chill out. Why must everything be interpreted as some sort of dig? enough with the politics, just chill out.

I'll rephrase: SketchyJ, I was only asking who you were targeting this at? if anyone at all. Just a simple question... with no ill intent.

After a few weeks of negativity, it is difficult to scrub all the mental grrr-feeling from posts. It's a bit like Eisenstein (http://www.main-vision.com/richard/montage.shtml)'s experiments in "montage" where he proved that unrelated shots influence each other's meaning simply through juxtaposition and time. The feeling from insulting posts bleed over into neutral posts, etc. Also we've established a pattern where Sketchy posts a pic and everyone attacks. Congratulations Sketchy. You're the Damien Hirst of VJing.

 Everyone should post a "good vibe" pic to heal our social area. Burn some sage. Clean up some of these beer bottles. It's as much for your own headspace as the forum space.

Hey, VU, this makes me think that there are two kinds of dating styles: one where you try to figure out what people want and try to become that, and another style where you just be who you are and let potential dates approach you....
if there were more women here this would be fuckin obvious
