hi eva
for those which was in AVIT or those which will be in VIDEA, you have the proof :
VR-5 (1 of the 2 VJ of TZ team) is a girl.
but, we didn't know any other girl making VJing (except you, eva :-))
but, i really don't understand why !

no, there are a few more out there than two!
there's definately something interesting in terms of sociology here, so many male vjs getting into it through the tech'n'toys... which kinda tallies on the flip side of my general experience of female vjs having better content or general aesthetic towards it... but erm well maybe yes maybe no...
and fab, yup when i showed my mother some photos from AVIT, the first thing she said was nothing about the venue or the visuals, but that the vj crowd didn't exactly seem to be a cross-section of society...

it`s good to hear that there are some other girls doing visuals!
Maybe some of them will come to Contact Europe next year.
and all vj-girls are invited to come to Austria next year in Augsut; 4youreye is planning a small vj-meeting and maybe we should do a female special or so...

hi there
Sand is talking - female part from TZ.
First, Eve, you can meet me on Videa next friday or on Contact-Europe next year.
Then i don't understand what does matter with the fact there is or not some females on VJ crew ?
When i mixed my images/videos, i just feel like a vj, before feeling as a female.
Then, i also thanks a lot, all the ones who were to AVIT and said nothing about the fact that i was the only VJ female there.
Yes, there isn't so much girls in VJ work, but really who cares ?
I prefers a lot to be recognize as the technical hardwares support of my crew than as a "circus animal" as a "VJ female".
And in my own opinion the most important is our community way of be with female, and i never feel some negative feeling in VJ world.
And why there's no more VJ female ?
maybe just have a look on the gender proportion on the computer work to have an answer.
There's not so much females on those technical works ; it's a fact issued from our 2000 history before...
something about males carried back food and a guy who dead on a cross ;D
Then hoping to see yu soon.

Yeah, Sand, I hear ya! No one wants to be known for something they had nothing to do with (like their body), but I'd say I'm always a woman first ?? even when I'm crawling behind the gear rack with a flashlight in my mouth trying to rewire filthy cables. HA! There are maybe a few who don't take me seriously personally because I play-up the part of being ultra-femme (a little glamour doesn't hurt in show-biz), but I always get respect for my vids -- especially from women. I make a decision to push a femme identity in my visuals. I also like making my visuals for chicks, lots of femme-dom fetish, GoGoGrrlz, and even flowers and hearts and cheesy stuff like that! I figure the women will get it when it alternates between sexy and goofy, and the boys will just watch the eyecandy and see something a little different than the usual distortion and static.
I don't go after a lot of ravy-trancy events because I don't think my style is going to go over too well there. There is a gender nuetrality in druggy parties (not trying to pass judgement here, just making an observation) that just want visuals to trip your head. I like a loungy, flirty scene where men are men and women are women and some men are women and some women are men.... but fer cryin outloud, please don't everyone dress in baggy raveralls and xxl t-shirts! I say mix it up and keep it sexy. I have this weird fan base of Japanese girls and dragqueens, ironic because they're usually the most girly-girl of the bunch. But they really love seeing sets that push a strong feminine agenda -- no matter how incoherant that can be.
I have a LOT of power as a woman and I use it. It doesn't stop me from being the one on the ladder when I know I'm the fastest one to do it. And it doesn't stop me from having high standards for my art or cutting deep with what I have to say (or having a goof at my own expense). On the contrary, it makes my video stronger and makes me cut deeper. I don't have any desire to check my pussy at the door! That just wouldn't be my style!

* (Suddenly and without warning there is a commotion in the hall. The door bursts open and a coupla mooks rush in with jockstraps on their heads.
"PANTY RAID!!" They shout in rehearsed unison.
The girlz scream in mock terror. There is much commotion and grasping. Holly reaches for her trusty whip Fredjor but ALAS he is at the cleaners! Eirenah rushes into the frey leaving her drink unprotected at the bar! Eva clocks two goons' heads together but they are protected by the padded jockstraps! NE1 returns from the bathroom and seeing the situation he slips back into the hall to make a secret phonecall. There are sirens in the distance....
[Theme from Shaft starts playing]
The doors burst open! It's Primebase3! He says something really cool in that low smokey voice and everyone freezes. With a flash and a twinkle in his eye the commotion has stopped. Eirenah is back at the bar with a fresh drink, and Eva goes to the bathroom to wash her hands. What has happened? There is a vague unsettled feeling, but no one can remember exactly what occured. NE1 nods and slips a cigarette between his lips. Eventually the chatter returns to normal.
The world may never know....*

There are a couple of female VJs I now here in NYC that aren't on the forums. One is Missy Galore, half of Feedbuck/Galore. She's been doing it for years so she's not on the software-n-laptop groove, more like the "Damn, that's a big table full of hardware yer dragging around, Missy!" kinda thang.
I know a few others. A lot of us are straddeling the art scene so the work is pretty conceptual. Missy did an installation after September 11th where she recreated the two towers with stacks of TV monitors displaying warped news footage of the attack: TeleTwinTowers.org (http://www.TeleTwinTowers.org/)

As with DJ's, there just isn't going to be alot of female VJ's, that is just a fact of life...that has nothing to do with the fact that female Vj's can't be as every bit powerful as male vj's...infact, female Vj's can even go further than male VJ's because they are the minority...they don't have to compete with all the ego's that seem to dominate the male VJ world, they know how to tease and appease, grovel when its called for, and be ladylike when the need arrises...females are very, very wonderful creatures that cannot be left out, because without the feminine perspective, this world would be hell on earth....

Have you met any of the folks doing electroclash out there? The "electroclash" tour came here to Mpls and almost all the acts had some sort of video integrated, it was awesome. I'm pretty sure all of those folks were from NYC, though as usual I can't remember any names. =] Anyway, I loved their stuff, it was so cheesy and toungue in cheek, it totally fit with the music and the stage acts, a perfect implementation of simple video.

Since now 2 weeks VJ OZ is working in the VJ?z group, the first female VJ in Luxembourg and around she is specialist in flash, web design, graphic design his boyfriend working professionally on AVID, VJ JAXX. I am sure that a good cooperation has started.
A female VJ in male group just can bring benefit to the creation an other approach to subjects. As myself, she is working as an independent, one man company in graphic design and has enough know-how to do this job in very good near future. She will be ready after 2 party?s. remember you also read all these user manuals of hard and software at the beginning.

Hey Grrrls --
I think pixy is trying to get a date ;) -- actually I liked his quote so much about female VJ's I had to take note of it to use for future inspiration.
If any of you girls out there want to come out to AVit you better let me know - will be good to have a female presence at North America's biggest VJ event to date.
Hit me up at Niky@simplistiks.net to get involved.
Anyone

Gosh, we have got to do some kind of colaboration together...
that reminds me a lot of my vis...
Mine are quite sexy (between sensual and sexual), but I like to stick in a few quirky elements like wind up toys, just in time before the audience thinks i'm a sleaze bucket...
Was really busy lately, so i'm just catching up on my VJF read
Nice to see people are having fun with it, cant wait to read episode 2 of the VJ super-heroe panty raid police...
