Omar is a Libyan refugee, so he's been stuck in Guantanamo Bay for nearly 2 years with no-one to stick up for him. The full case is on Amnesty web page: http://web.amnesty.org/library/index/engamr510882995
Would anyone consider working with an image of him, and text of web links like save_omar.com. I have several pictures of him, but only one is a big file. Please give it a thought, or pass the idea on to someone else who might help.....

Amnesty link is a 404 (and no evidence of an omar campaign at amnesty) and save_omar.com doesn't seem to exist.... Maybe it has been banned in the States???

Hi, so so sorry for wasting some of your time. i shouldn't have posted the thread so late at night after some strong painkillers. I got both web addresses wrong. The amnesty page number is out, it is: http://web.amnesty.org/library/index/engamr510882005
And the save omar site is: save_omar.org.uk, another good reference for him is cageprisoners.com.
sorry again, and thanks for your interest.

Is this a campaign to get him released so he can face charges

"One of the 11 arrested in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Grenada is alleged to have been bin Laden's agent in Spain.

The video was allegedly taken a year ago and showed Islamic terrorist meetings and preparations for attacks in Chechnya.

The video featured two Islamic militants, Abu Mughen and Omar Deghayes, who are known to have met in Spain with two of those arrested on Tuesday, Osama Darra and the group's suspected leader, Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas. "

"A Spanish high court judge, Baltasar Garzon, named Mr Deghayes and three others as terror suspects he wanted extradited from Cuba to Spain because of links with al-Qaida."

I wonder if it would be bad tatse to launch a campaign for 'Keep Omar locked up"

The evidence you refered to was investigated in a BBC News night program, in which experts viewed the video footage and concluded that the person supposed to be Omar Deghayes was not him.
The way that evidence is used to collect suspected terrorists is different to proper criminal proceedings, they can use "hearsay", and thus refer to someone as a "known terrorist" because some frightenned person very probably under threat of torture has named them, not some credible intelligence research.
Omar Deghayes is a devout Muslim, but advocates peaceful methods and before his life was taken away from him, was training as a lawyer because he wanted to specialise in human rights legal work.
