Fixed Fee Proposal for a Music Video - Ideas / Examples?
Writing one of these, and it's a chalenge - ( Like most here, I prefer images to words, but good negociation is key )
Looking for links, books, anything. Especially those focused on the freelance motion graphics / music video industry from a legal standpoint - Actual contract examples would be the best!
Thanks for your assistance! ;)

Somebody on the forum knows this, I'm sure?
I found a general guide at the mega-bookshop, but a "VJ angle" on this would be great

some thoughts and writings on music videos.
the first problem is always budget,
get it clear, sign off on a contract that you state your terms and conditions of work, i.e length of time at a certain rate, any hidden extras, and budget for changes, final ownership etc.
do this BEFORE you start any work, if you dont then whatever happens is your own fault.
If you have to film as well, get release forms signed. rights of ownership signed as well to protect yourself.
If the job is on a final one off fee, write in the contract that you expect a 3rd of the fee upfront, a third on the completion and signing of of the finished job, and a third on a 28 day invoice.
If they agree and sign, then if anything goes wrong at any stage you will be limiting the amount you could possibly loose.
Also get it stated clearly the terms and condidtions of the final video, will you get any money from licensing the work for video ringtones etc. Also make sure that you have the right to use and promote the video for your own uses, and possibly even get the rights to a video remix if applicable.
expect to work on it for about 4-6 weeks,
charge accordingly, ie at least ?200-?500 per day
depending on your skills, the budget, the act and the expectations of the client.

thx for reply, and good points! I'm typing this kind of thing right now, in fact...
"In business, you don't get what you deserve, you get what you negociate." - writer I forget

I've done a couple indie videos in the past on an open basis
But aren't most videos for larger $ companies done only on a "work for hire basis"?
( yes, I know it's better to "liscense" it, if possible )
what would I ask for - something like:
"the Designer reserves the right to project visual content from the Video in live VJ performances" -
would they agree to that?
