If you where putting on a night and you had a choice of the music to accompany the visuals what style would it be and why?

I would finally do something with not just one style but a sensibly buildup where anything goes like jazz/minimal house/tech/breaks/disco/italo/electro/latin/whatnot
no matter what style of music (except jazz maybe) I'd get bored hearing for the whole night.

IDM

Because its not straigh 4/4, nor the far overused Winston Amen drum track.

My video goes best with IDM.

My ultimate dream would be to provide visuals for a live performance of J.S. Bach "Toccato and Fugue in D Minor", in a church with a great organ. IMHO this is the greatest piece of music ever written.

Probably it would be drum 'n bass even though there's no special reason for it, it just feel good with what I'm doing recently.

that depends a lot on the preferences of the vjs who will be providing the visuals. why not ask them?
...
apart from that i would agree with robotfunk: do more than just one style of music.
my personal fav is any music with intelligent/interesting/diverse rhythm.

But please, not TOO diverse. Nothing's worse than setting up a build and the DJ goes to left field and all the beats become asynchrotic noise shit. Likewise there are 80's nostalgia songs that just blow. Keep it in the dance music vein so the VJ can understand where the DJ is going. Rock'n'roll has got to be the WORST! each song is 2.5 minutes long. ugh.

I'd say drum&bass is best because all visuals seem to be flattered by the quickbeats and flow-y melodies. You can go fast or slow, or both, and chances are everything fits.

not when its a live band..... i never get tired of a good rockin' band to use in my feedbacks heh heh.... but really i think i'm more in the vein of Manitou-- would kill to play a set to Scriabin (most likely the "poem of e" but even better the 3 day long mysterium..... even without the e.. dang that would be a trip

J.S. Bach

I prefer his famous passacaglia. YMMV

in the dance enviro I'd go for booty shakin house and breaks cuz I like it when the girls get sweaty

though for visuals I like the drama and epic scale of good progressive
