4th Annual Elektra Festival: Montreal, Canada
Digital adventures and eclectic sensations
Many high-intensity moments are to be expected during this fourth edition designed to meet the expectations of connoisseurs and fans of the fresh-and-bold approach alike. The futuristic, off-the-trolley electro-funk of the British collective Super_Collider with singer Jamie Lidell and DJ Cristian Vogel, the DJ performances of the industrial robots (Juke-Bots) of Robot Lab and the video special Chris Cunningham/Aphex Twin-a Canadian first-are definitely events to underline. Not to mention the closing-night party, sponsored by Goldclub Series, which will serve as a benefit party for Elektra this year. On this occasion, a special screening of the cult classic Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard will be presented, and British producer Scanner will perform a live remix of the score. A never-before-seen confrontation between the Juke Bots and master turntablist A-Trak will also take place during this special celebration.
As part of its more "experimental" tier, Elektra is proud to welcome the creative soul of Sound Trafic Control, Naut Human, who will doctor the remixes of Iannis Xenakis's masterpiece Persepolis and will present his version of the Noise Gate installation by Austrian duo Granular Synthesis. For his first video performance, Kit Clayton has called on Californian Sue Costabile, to contribute to a night completed by multimedia collective Battery Operated and Gordon Monahan. The latter will present us with his legendary performance, Speaker Swinging, during which speakers will accomplish acrobatic feats. And Montrealer Christian Calon will foster a meeting of electroacoustic music and theatre with Le Projet Ulysse featuring, among others, actor Gabriel Gascon and New York singer Shelley Hirsch. Finally, local artists will perform on the front stage on opening night as the multi-screen video-music works of Jean Pich?, Thien Vu Dang (VJ Pillow), Mathieu St-Arnaud, Krystell Burlin, David Fafard, Zack Settel and Rojo are showcased.
